That's why it's better to not go all rabid on the new star wars.spike wrote:The OT was a simpler time in Star Wars land. Vader was the bad guy in a fun trilogy and that was enough. Ensuing rabid fandom demanded that his backstory be explained, necessitating the prequels. Be careful what you ask for.Coach wrote:That's a real good point, skitch, and something for the OT worshipers to consider. That OT wasn't perfect by any means.@SkitchP wrote:dimejinky99 wrote:He actually has the same struggle as Anakin / Vader. He's not naturally evil but wants to be. I never cheer for the bad guys but from a character development PoV I'm super excited to see his conflict develop and see where he goes.
They can't redeem him not after killing Han but then again they're making everything rhyme with the Ot so possibly he will be redeemed.
Disagree on the first part. But Anakin as Anakin never viewed himself as evil... He was convinced he was doing the RIGHT thing. And frankly, the OT never really dealt with WHY he was on the dark side at all. Kylo clearly struggles with the "light" side, and is intentionally and knowingly choosing the dark because of the power associated with it. And I would say there is almost zero chance there is not some sort of redemption for him at the end. Possibly to the point of the 3rd movie of this trilogy being a buddy jedi comedy with Rey.

Im still working it out for the next movie.spike wrote:So s fully formed baby just appeared one day. It's there on a plate.
He's her father.
On the other hand, the Lei-Han having a kid and not staying together was very believable and handled nicely.

Let's compare movies from the 70s, 80s, 90s, and 2010s with different levels of expectations! It's totally fair!

And he was awesome and we were very grateful. He was incredibly sweet and handsome, and all that stuff. Then he rode off on his motorcycle. Literally the coolest voice over actor ever.”
As they worked on editing the dream sequence, Bryan Burk, a longtime Bad Robot collaborator and one of the producers of the film, surprised Abrams one day with the gift of a single word: Obi-Wan Kenobi’s voice saying the name “Rey …”
“I said, ‘That’s cool, is that the thing from Ewan McGregor?’” Abrams recalled. “He said ‘No, we took a line from Alec Guinness saying ‘Afraid.’”
Not only that, but the lilt in his voice from that truncated word happened to fit exactly what Abrams had in mind. “They cut it, and you hear the performance – he’s saying it the way I would have begged Alec Guinness to have said it. It is so crazy perfect,” Abrams says. “So when you hear Obi-Wan talk to Rey it is both Alec Guinness and Ewan McGregor doing the voice.”
Frank Oz, a veteran of The Muppets who puppeteered Yoda and supplied his voice in the earlier movies, also contributed new dialogue for The Force Awakens, although Abrams says they ended up using pre-existing elements of the little green Jedi master’s voice.
“He was incredibly generous and came in to Bad Robot, where we had a recording area, and he was doing Yoda, saying a number of lines we gave to him,” Abrams says. “This whole experience has been one outrageous moment after another. Just watching Frank Oz, you look at him and talk to him and his voice is very deep. I don’t know why I would have thought he sounded like Miss Piggy!”

I know, I was referring to Coach's post.@SkitchP wrote:LoathedVermin72 wrote:The OT not dealing with Vader's reasons for being evil isn't a flaw. Do you guys need every little thing explained? Jeez.
Im not in anyway saying it's a flaw. Just a factual representation of the character. It wasn't discussed. Where as Kylo's reasons for being evil are obviously going to be a central theme. I like the ambiguity in Vaders evilness. I wish they never had revealed it.

If they'd allow it, I'd make a $1,000 donation to JJ's charity of choice so that I could get my hands on a digital copy and watch over again in the comfort of my home theater.
