Re: STAR WARS SPOILER THREAD. SPOILERS WITHIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The successful casting of John Boyega and Daisy Ridley was a move they had to nail and both actors delivered. As I reflect after 24 hours, I keep coming back to that thought.

This was probably the most important thing that they had to get right. It would've been great to still see the original cast for nostalgia, but if we didn't warm to the new guys then the rest of the trilogy would be doomed.Coach wrote:The successful casting of John Boyega and Daisy Ridley was a move they had to nail and both actors delivered. Fortunately, Daisy and John are fantastic. I'm so excited to see how Rey's story unfolds.

Jesus, Pauline Kael called this out when ANH came out in '77:
It’s an epic without a dream. But it’s probably the absence of wonder that accounts for the film’s special, huge success. The excitement of those who call it the film of the year goes way past nostalgia to the feeling that now is the time to return to childhood.

One of the earliest "leaks" of the film's plot explained how Rey and Poe would become an item, and Finn and Lupita Nyong'o's characters would become an item, and that's the moment wen I realized it was a fake.stip wrote:all those jedi look alike to me

Re: STAR WARS SPOILER THREAD. SPOILERS WITHIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I liked it a lot more the second time, and I loved it the first time. Teared up a lot more during this viewing (the opening crawl, Han and Chewie first appearing, seeing Luke at the end, and a lot of the OT music) and will definitely be going to see it at least 1 or 2 more times.Daniel Bryan wrote:Just got home from second viewing. My brother, dad and uncle absolutely loved it. They were gushing as we left the cinema.
I enjoyed it even more this time. Rey is absolutely my favourite character. I'm utterly invested in her journey. Kylo Ren definitely fucked up when he tried to extract info from her mind. He knows he fucked up, too. That shit scared him and he was weaker from that moment on.
I want NO redemption for Ren. That fucker killed Han Solo. He should be killed with fire. His journey is very intriguing too. He wants so badly to be evil; he has this romanticised idea of Darth Vader and is striving to be him. But does he even know that Vader saw the light just before he died? I wonder what that would do to his psyche.
I think its possible that Rey is Luke's daughter, but I'm not fussed if she isn't. They obviously have some kind of past relationship. Maybe I'm the only one but I'm not overly bothered about a showdown between Kylo Ren/Snoke and Luke. I think at some point he'll have a fight with them, and he'll probably die. If that happens, its perhaps in the final film so that the stakes are super high. But, if they tell Rey's story properly, then I think she should be the one to have the final important battle and take down the bad guys.
I fucking love this film.
My only complaints are:
3 of Finn's lines "did you see that?" "Do you have a boyfriend, a cute boyfriend?", and "hell no" didn't fit the SW universe.
I didn't like some of the creatures, like Maz and a few others in the cantina.
I didn't like the reggae music in the cantina, was kinda cheesy.
Snoke looked like something out of Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings (i know andy serkis portrayed him)
Other than that, i thought it was amazing. Great space and land battles. Kylo Ren was an awesome villain, and i thought Adam Driver was really good. As has been said many times, he's what Anakin should have been in the prequels. The big shocker for me was how much I loved BB-8. I thought he might be the Jar Jar of this one, but he was really funny. Harrison Ford was probably the highlight for me, though.

Yeah, Kylo was exactly what Anakin should've been. Its amazing to see how easily the character was pulled off. They created a strong character in just one movie, whereas by the end of Revenge of the Sith I no longer cared about Anakin becoming Vader. The whole 'journey' was a tedious mess. And there's so much room for further development of Kylo Ren, too.RussellManiac12 wrote:I liked it a lot more the second time, and I loved it the first time. When do you think Disney will reboot the prequels? 2030-ish?
