Finn is a perfect surrogate for all the socially awkward, overly excitable fanboys in the audience.

He is a very refreshing character, exhibiting a raw, heart-on-your-sleeve emotion in a way that we haven't even seen from a SW movie protagonist since Luke in episode IV before he became a sterile Jedi master. This is coming out of a guy that has been behind a mask in a highly structured military organization his entire life. SW has finally humanized a group of "bad guys" we have been watching get indiscriminately beat up on for 35+ years. I dare say Boyega was threatening to steal the screen in almost every scene he was in, even when matched up against the Han Solo.
I mostly just stared at his mouth
Is this a sex thing?

Finn's character in TFA and his journey is brilliant. We follow him through feeling abhorrent at Ren and the needless killing, the excitement and pure joy at being free (for him the reality of getting out of the ST suit, for us metaphorically after the prequels. Star Wars is back BABY!), he puts words to us falling in love with Rey and bonding with BB8, Han and Chewie. He is our guide. Rey may be the protagonist but Finn was our guide. Everyone could run and hide, everyone would reasonably consider it but that scene works so well because we are invested in Finn by then.

His unbridled joy, fear, excitement was mine too. Brilliant.
 I had not thought of it in precisely that way yet, but you're right. Well said.

And the awakening happened well before Ren tried to mind bang Rey. The conversation Kylo had uuwith Snoke happened after Rey and Finn got away with BB8 in the Falcon on Jakku. The way that those two connected, the "I can do this" self pep talk...neither of whom was ever conquered by fear at anytime, though they felt plenty of it. Even further back, Ren felt it when Finn turned at the Jakku village. The kid is definitely kind of a big deal.

Early on, Poe tells Kylo that he doesn't recognize him with the mask on. What's the history there?

Whew, I enjoyed it a lot. It had that Star Wars vibe. The one thing that stayed with me was the pacing. It was so damn impressive. Looking back I can see a lot of scenes that were cut short.

So many possibilities for episode 8. Abrams did a great job of giving the next director/writer a ton of room to work with.

The numbers I'm seeing look pretty final, so it's time to announce the winner of the "guess the domestic gross" contest...drumroll please bbbbbbbbbbbbbbb....
Guesses for Opening Weekend US Domestic Gross:

strat - $2.5 b
ruddo - $325 m
CopperTom - $350 m
Kaius - $278 m
spike - $251 m
zeb - $250 m
Simple Torture - $245 m
lenny - $236 m
Argo - $230 m
stip - $211 m
Burt - $1 m
And the winner is...zeb!

The film's actual gross over the weekend was $247,966,675, which demolished Jurassic World's opening-weekend record by nearly $40 million. zeb was only off by a little over $2 million ($2,033,325, to be precise). I came in a close second at just a hair under $3 million off.

Thanks for playing! We'll try to guess Rogue One's disappointing box office haul 12 months from now.

I was under the impression that China had the same opening weekend. This is an outrage!

I really like the theory that Rey is the granddaughter of Obi-Wan. Not sure how it all fits together but I like that idea a lot.
