All stormtroopers get weapons training. He'd know how to use that arm club thing.

Btw, how fucking moronic was that fight with the one storm trooper with that shock sword thingy? Basically ruined the specialness of lightsabers forever. Good job, jj. Destroy it all. Tear it all down.
