I haven't read that reddit yet, but my thoughts---

Finn has a connection to the force This is backed up many times throughout the movie. He also would be an above average fighter in the context of the current galaxy, which is lacking Jedi and sith running around kicking ass and has been for many years. And let's not overstate how he did against Ren. Ren seemed to be in cocked out, play with my meal before I eat it mode, while significantly injured, and was caught off guard by an impassioned and scared opponent with one good hit. He ended the fight immediately after taking damage. Having said that, I don't think Kylo is necessarily an exceptionally good warrior when compared to other sith/Jedi. He's young, he's insecure, and he's surrounded by non-force users all of the time. What sword training do you suppose he has been getting that would make him get better and not worse...?

I don't get too worried about the details when the scene itself doesn't work. Why is it there in the first place? What purpose does it serve? It makes Kylo look weak. It makes Fin look weak. It makes lightsabers look weak. They aren't relics of ancient power or dangerous weapons in incompetent hands, they are just swords in a world of laser guns and space ships. It accomplishes nothing. It's not only pointless, its detrimental to the movie.
