Tony Dungy sucks.

He thinks every team is going to win every game, and he agrees with every call made by every coach. Never a critical word about anything. I like how Rodney Harrison disagrees with virtually everything he says.

So has Belicheck offered any sort of explanation for what has to be one of the dumbest coaching decisions in a long time or is he acting like people are just too stupid to understand what he was going for there?

I think there's a chance that it's a bit of revisionism, but, then again, the Jets offense did look anemic for the last 10 minutes of regulation, so he mighta been planning to pin them. Bammer is right, though: it means nothing if the Patriots win next week.

Let the Jets win to keep the Steelers out of the playoffs.

Is that really what was happening? Because I would not bat an eye if my team's GM fired the coach citing a decision like that as one of the primary reasons.

Belichick is the GM so that'd be pretty impressive.

I don't care if he is the GM its not the point. Nobody has really answered my question: Did he totally shit his pants today by making an incredibly stupid decision with Pats fans rationalizing it as Steelers fear OR did he really instruct his team to throw the game?

I'm not so sure it was an "incredibly" stupid decision. The offense pretty much sucked all day; they couldn't run the ball or protect Brady. In the 4th quarter, it was the defense that gave the Pats a chance. If I remember, all but one or two drives were 3 and out. So if your defense can force a punt you get a little better field position, and with the OT rules, all you need is a field goal from one of the best kickers in the league. It obviously didn't work out that way, but when BB says he thought that kicking gave them the best chance, he may not be full of shit.

Did anyone see before the half? Patriots had the ball and usually they always try to score. This time they just let the clock run out. THEY THREW THE GAME

Totally disagree with any attempt to say its okay for a coach to let the other team have the first crack in a sudden death situation. Didnt the lions coach get roasted for the same rationale years back?

Technically, it's not sudden death anymore. Considering the context (Pats play one of the worst teams in the league next week, only need one more win for home field) it's an interesting choice, and not the one I would make, but the risk/reward isn't season-breaking or anything, so it's not really something to get too strung out about. I don't believe any of the Steelers conspiracy theories.

He did. But the thing was... he was right that day. It just didnt work. No one could kick in that direction in Chicago it was so windy. Not a single point was scored into the wind that day until the OT If I recall, the lions had them pinned at around their own 35 with a 3rd and 17. But then the bears converted it and did end up kicking a FG.

everyone likes talking about the statistics that show that coaches do things wrong A LOT. like ever kicking an extra point instead of going for two, or punting on anything less than 4th and 3...

but then we roast them for going against conventional wisdom when it doesn't work.

You can disagree all you want. BB kicked against Denver in OT a few years back, and it worked.
