I'm not so sure it was an "incredibly" stupid decision. The offense pretty much sucked all day; they couldn't run the ball or protect Brady. In the 4th quarter, it was the defense that gave the Pats a chance. If I remember, all but one or two drives were 3 and out. So if your defense can force a punt you get a little better field position, and with the OT rules, all you need is a field goal from one of the best kickers in the league. It obviously didn't work out that way, but when BB says he thought that kicking gave them the best chance, he may not be full of shit.

Totally disagree with any attempt to say its okay for a coach to let the other team have the first crack in a sudden death situation. Didnt the lions coach get roasted for the same rationale years back?

You can disagree all you want. BB kicked against Denver in OT a few years back, and it worked.

true, but as in all sports, when you have the record that Bellichek has, you are allowed some leeway. If Rex Ryan had 4 super bowl titles and did it, he wouldn't be crucified.

If the Broncos lose tonight, it could be them--in Arrowhead. If that doesn't happen it's definitely the Texans, as KC holds the tiebreaker over both PIT and NYJ. That could be good for the Chiefs, considering that they tore the Texans a new one to start the season.

It's similar to college in that regard: you want to know what the opponent has done first in knowing the best way to win the game:
--If you force a three-and-out, you likely just need a couple dozen yards for a FG attempt.
--If they score a FG, you can try to conservatively score a TD while knowing that a FG keeps you alive.
--If they score a TD, then you know you have to go balls out to do the same, even if it means going for it on 4th down.
