Am I on crack, or doesn't someone need to have Force powers/potential within them in order to actually use a light sabre? And yes I realize the force flows thru everything...

As a non-SW junkie I don't have every little detail memorized but my reaction to Finn wielding a light sabre was like "WTF?" because I thought only Jedi/Sith (or future Jedi/Sith) could use them.
Han Solo uses Luke's lightsaber to cut open the Taun Taun. They are the weapons of choice for Jedi/Sith, but anyone could use one.

Non Jedis can obviously hold, activate, and use a lightsaber to some degree, but they're not going to be deflecting laser blasts or anything.

Sometimes, even Jedis are idiots when it comes to lightsabers.

It could have been worse. You could have implied that being strong with the force just automatically makes someone good with a lightsaber.
