It's not that Finn can use a lightsaber it's how can he remotely compete with Ren who has been trained on how to use it. If I picked up a samurai sword and charged a samurai I'd last 3 seconds.

It's not that Finn can use a lightsaber it's how can he remotely compete with Ren who has been trained on how to use it.

I'm guessing that the first order troopers have some kind of melee training. It's likely transferable to a light saber.

Plus Ren was dying from Chewie's bow caster shot (whose power was a running point throughout the movie) and is largely toying with Finn until Finn gets a hit in. Then he ends it.

On that podcast dime linked there is a really interesting discussion on how unnerved Ren is after the Rey interrogation and how he's off his game for the remainder of the movie - that the Ren they fight at the end is not the one we see at the beginning

The force is tied very closely with the users's emotions. I agree, it's likely that Ren was extremely rattled, causing him to lose focus of his force powers.

Another plus for her being a Kenobi is that it enables the Kenobi v Skywalker battle to last 3 generations, and as long as we're on the same long story arc I like that kind of symmetry.

Yep. This is what I've been saying. If the kenobi line is alive in Rey it would add a lot more potency to the story than the more straight forward theory of a skywalker vs skywalker story line. Plus I really like that symmetry as well.

JJ and Kasdan have said this trilogy is about the skywalker line and you can't have that without kenobi in my opinion.

Apparently "Luke I am your father" is the only reason anybody liked the original trilogy at all, based on how obsessed everyone is with establishing Rey's family line.

Then again, Luke is apparently on the planet Ahchoo or something, so you all MIGHT have just seen a Spaceballs sequel and not realized it.
