Re: Queens of the Stone Age | …Like Clockwork [4 June]
Been Listening to LC for a week and I'm digging it. I am taking it for what it's worth, how they are presenting it (ie. it was a struggle, they fought through it, came out the other side and are now good, etc etc) .... that's exactly how it sounds. It's definitely not this album that's bubbling with inspiration, you can hear them laboring over it, adding parts, solos, hooks, and it works within the context in which they have presented it. A solid work work from a great band.
Man, I do NOT get people's gripes with Lullabyes. Only problem is the back half where they have too many of these slow burning songs that don't really go anywhere and it drags the album a bit. But most of the songs are top shelf Josh Homme stuff. Up their with the best, so I rank it right there w/ R and SftD.
Outside of all that, I'm a little weary of people always speculating sort of "is this the peak moment of xxxx band", "are they over" .... I don't buy all of that hogwash. A great artist can go on as long as they live and they can put out worthwhile stuff. Sometimes they hit sometimes they miss but an artist like Queens or PJ I just get great satisfaction following ......

I think they're both good songs, but not that great and they don't make me want to listen them that much...tommymctom wrote:YCQMBsolace wrote:Avon?KurtLeon wrote:I just can't seem to like this album.Wendy Carlos's Twin wrote:Are you retarded?KurtLeon wrote: Self-Titled 3/10

I think the same about How To Handle A Rope and You Would Know.
Teenage Hand Model is probably right behind Regular John and If I Only, though.
I'd say that my biggest problem w/ the Self Titled is the production and how Homme sounds in the record. It just doesn't sound good to my ears.
Besides, I think these songs are too much... Crude. Per say.

Yeah...this is exactly how I feel. There are a ton of good songs on that record (with a pretty glaring soft-spot; I just skip them to the last 2, which are fucking great songs). I am really glad they tried that path for a record and I think, with a couple of the tracks omitted, it's among their strongest work.Tuolumne wrote:Man, I do NOT get people's gripes with Lullabyes. "I was lost in the dark" – Queens of the Stone Age's Josh Homme in interview
As Queens of the Stone Age purge their doubts with the most serious album of their career, Josh Homme stops to count his midgets

.....
I loved this part the best:
"We’re trying to hang our toes off the edge here, because the music is totally honest and real – that’s where you can fail. But I’d rather fail and die by my own sword than let somebody else choose or play it safe. I just feel like musical safety equals death. You want me to make the same record I made before? Don’t hold your breath; because you’re probably gonna pass out.”
I'm most of the way through a first listen of this album. I'm enjoying it, but not blown away yet. May need multiple listenings to get it, which is usually a good thing for me. My God Is The Sun is incredibly good though.

They sound like Kyuss...mainly because he was just departed that band. But its an incredible debut and kick ass on vinyl.KurtLeon wrote:I think they're both good songs, but not that great and they don't make me want to listen them that much...tommymctom wrote:YCQMBsolace wrote:Avon?KurtLeon wrote:I just can't seem to like this album.Wendy Carlos's Twin wrote:Are you retarded?KurtLeon wrote: Self-Titled 3/10

So is this band any good? The first time I heard of them was when "No One Knows" was being played everywhere and I didn't really like it other than maybe the drumming. What album should I listen to first?

Start with the new one. It is their most accessible album and has a little bit of everything.j's brain wrote:So is this band any good? Listen to Rated R and put "In the Fade" on repeat 7 times in the process.BurtReynolds wrote:nah. start with their old stuff. This one's a little different.j's brain wrote:So is this band any good?
