Movie: The Revenant

Really bummed to hear how disappointing this is to everybody who's seen it.

Loved the book, with the exception of the underwhelming finale. Can somebody spoiler code the film's ending for me? Curious if it's the same.

The finale is the showdown between Glass and Fitzgerald. They had a brutal fight in the snow, both men get hurt but ultimately Glass stabs Fitz a few times. He then spots the Indians approaching on the other side of the river, and so he pushes a still-alive Fitz across the water and the Indians finish him off.

Glass waits there nervously as the Indians approach, probably thinking they're going to kill him too. But they just nod and ride past him, and he notices that the old man is now with his daughter who he spent the whole film searching for, and who Glass saved earlier while she was being raped.

Glass then starts to make his way back to the base/compound/whatever its called, but he's really injured. He sees another vision of his wife, encouraging him to keep going. She walks away, the camera stays on Glass and he starts staring right into the camera. And then it end.

Personally, I LOVED the film.

Thanks! This sounds WAY better than the book's ending.

I was enthralled throughout the whole thing. The final fight is brilliant!

From both your post, and the trailer, it seems there are some other different elements as well. There's no rape scene in the book, and no Native searching for his daughter. In the trailer, Glass mentions his son. I'm thinking this may just be a result of his fever dream, but either way, there is no son -- real or imagined -- in the book.

But I still can't get over how much better this ending sounds. The ending in the book is:

Glass confronts Fitzgerald at the outpost. He tries to steal back his gun, and ultimately has to face Fitzgerald in court. During the trial, Glass pulls out a pistol and takes a shot at Fitzgerald. The bullet just grazes him, and ultimately both men go their separate ways. No real resolution to this entire plotline!

That's it? Yeah the film is much better then! The son is in the film, and a lot of Glass' need for revenge at the end is because of what happens to his son.

Took me awhile to appreciate the movie. By the end I decided I enjoyed it. Im not sure what all this talk about Leo getting an oscar nod for this performance is about though. Most of the movie it is just him grunting and looking anguished. I have no doubt it was probably a very difficult movie to shoot, but I wasn't blown away by him. I thought Tom Hardy was fantastic though.

The scenery is incredible and its beautiful shot. Im always a sucker for films that depict mountainous regions. shocking.

I believe I saw it twice in the theater and will watch it every once in awhile. Thought it was just a riot of a film and felt like they were really climbing those mountains. Scared of heights and I moved to the mountains!

Tom Hardy totally owned Leo on this one. By far the more interesting character and the better acting job. The movie itself is incredible.

Go on....

Most of the movie i was "meh" other than the location of the shooting. By the end, i was a little more into it. I dont know if my expectations were the culprit or what but I am mostly meh on the movie as well. Although, as stated above, I really enjoyed watching Tom hardy. I forgot he was in it and had to look up (during the movie) who was playing that character and was 1) not surprised and 2) very surprised.

I was thinking of watching this again cos I was just in a foul humour when I saw it, but anyone online who's seen it and sidnt like it seems to have a lot of the same take on it I did so I can pass.
Someone needs to tell Di Caprio that sorta constipated/seizure thing he does, isn't acting.

This is great
