The question would be, why? I don't recall Bowie being mentioned as an influence. It would just be riding coattails (or following the hearse in this instance). Unfortunately, Pearl Jam has shown they are not above this.

Thank you, David Bowie, for making music interesting, flamboyant, important, redefining, rocking, preening, freeing, soul searching, exploratory and beautiful! You live on in your own "Space Odyssey" & forever in our hearts. You made the world a better place to live in and that is the highest honor!
RIP David Bowie.

Not quite a big enough hit tho.
I'm sure they'll pick a great Bowie tune and manage to ruin it for me.

Look, their performance of that at the honor show was fucking amazing.

There always felt like a huge distance between artist and audience. Purposely I think. I feel bad for not being as affected as I should considering how much I've enjoyed his music.
Definitely purposely and i think this is why he released what turned out to be his final album when he had literally days to live, with no indication whatsoever that he was terminally ill. People even hoped he'd tour again.

I think the fact that he was able to sustain his career at a point when his new recordings are still highly anticipated and very well received up to his death (rather than being just a living legend aka nostalgia act) is mind blowing and i can't really picture anybody else but Bowie pulling something like this off.
I think the schism between the music and the man was intentional as well. It helped facilitate his moving from genre to genre. The focus was always on having the listener love the music and not the man.
Which is exactly what he did up to the very end. He managed to sustain the artist persona alive and well even releasing a video less than a week ago.

Yes but then they played it at every other show from 2009 forward.

I'm super sad about this. I've often thought about how I will feel when it will be Mick, Keith, Paul, Plant, Page... but I never thought about Bowie because he was just on the outside of that list. Apparently this hurt a lot more than I expected.

Rise and Fall of ZS is in my top-10 albums of all time.

Also, just heard Lazarus for the first time on the radio this weekend and I thought it was fantastic.

Green River used to cover Queen Bitch. I can see PJ pulling that one off.

And the song is better with the brass section.

It's going to kill me when Page dies.
Think I’m going to try being kind to everyone a chance.

I just hope he doesn't do something like Ziggy Stardust that would accommodate his warble register well.

Generally i'm sure there will be an abundance of awful Bowie covers performed by everybody in the next months.

I think this would be great but Ed would fake having some sort of great affiliation and identification with the song. Let Stone sing it.

But I predict the St. Vincent cover (which ever song she chooses) will be phenomenal. The best of the bunch.

I hope he kisses the tips of his fingers and then points them upwards, as the song wraps.
