I mean, at what point will we all be sick of the Marvel Universe and DC Universe and just demand a "Marvel v. DC" 5-part, 7-year endeavor?Strat wrote:They need more superhero's in this one.McParadigm wrote:The absence of Batman/Superman hype does make me wonder. They'll pat themselves on the back right up until one of them fails to make $250,000 profit. That's the bottom line. Anything over that is a runaway success in their minds. Anything below that is panic time.McParadigm wrote:The absence of Batman/Superman hype does make me wonder. I can't wait until it's revealed that Light Sabers are powered by Kryptonite. Then we'll have a cinematic universe worth talking about.

Well in this universe time doesn't work the same because Han Solo aged too much for a guy traveling at light speed, and Beru and Owen aged too much for people that don't travel at light speed, so clearly there is a lot of science we need to learn.

I wonder how much licencing impacts these decisions. Even if a movie barely breaks even if it spawned a ton of batman/superman/wonder woman toys it may be worth their while.McParadigm wrote:The absence of Batman/Superman hype does make me wonder. I'm not gonna analyze and critique this movie as a 35 year old man. There are plenty of other films to do that with. My 12 year old inner self is super pumped for this. And that's exactly why these movies are made.

There's nothing wrong with that, and it's why, god help me, I'm intrigued by the TMNT sequel (casey jones AND krang AND bebop AND rocksteady!).bodysnatcher wrote:I'm not gonna analyze and critique this movie as a 35 year old man. But Snyder is clearly trying to make a serious movie about big themes, and so that invites a different approach to the material.

Can you, or anyone, expand on how this is supposed to be a more 'serious movie' than any of the avengers\ captain America\iron man films that have been released? They all seem to fall under the category of "big dumb comic book movies". I honestly don't understand the level of scrutiny this one is receiving.

Avengers age of ultron was one of the most boring and bad On every level films Ive seen.
And it's a character mashup by design and at its roots should be simple to make great.
It was awful. So a marvel v DC film? Wouldn't work except to be a cash cow for the studios who know comic book fans will see it despite its lack of merit.

Snyder has spoken many times on the adult themes, the realism, the ideas it wants to grapple with.Kral wrote:Can you, or anyone, expand on how this is supposed to be a more 'serious movie' than any of the avengers\ captain America\iron man films that have been released? And all of the movies you just mentioned, while big comic book moviemaking feature compelling characters, interesting arcs, and at least some superficial discussion of interesting themes. It's what separates them from big dumb movies. They are popcorn blockbusters, but that's a continuum with a lot of space on it for different types of movies. I wouldn't reduce these to the TMNT reboot

And for what it's worth I completely believe that is what Snyder is going for, and so I'm gonna judge it on that front. If it fails on that front but populates the movie with enjoyable characters and good action set pieces I'll still enjoy it. The problem is that I think fights between indestructible people are boring unless there is something else going on that supplements the action, and none of these characters look like they are anything but miserable people. It feels like it's going to be a long turgid two hours.
The only guy I am excited for at this point is eisenberg's Luthor.

Ha thought I was the only one that thought Eisenberg's character looking promising...couldn't understand all the hate. Still not sure what to expect out of this movie yet but shit it's only 2 months out. Definitely more interested in this than Suicide Squad--that seems to have stinker written all over it.stip wrote:stip wrote:Snyder has spoken many times on the adult themes, the realism, the ideas it wants to grapple with.Kral wrote:Can you, or anyone, expand on how this is supposed to be a more 'serious movie' than any of the avengers\ captain America\iron man films that have been released?
