I wasn't convinced by that one. I wasn't put off by it, but there were too many unfamiliar characters for me to get a sense of anything. I think Leto's joker has potential despite the look, and I hope Margot Robbie gets some good lines. She seems pretty invested in the character, but she also smacks of punch line writing.

TL/DR--this one depends on the reviews.

definitely unknown characters if youre not into dc comics even a little bit.

its a great premise (that marvel tried to copy and did well with, Thunderbolts)

harley has to say mister J or puddin in the movie. it would be like wolverine never saying bub.

a few people i saw commenting on the trailer said the trailer was too much like GoTG, and while i can see some similarities i think the two teams are complete 180s of each other

it's clearly trying to ape that irreverent tone, though Guardians did it better, with some better jokes and much better use of music. Bohemian Rhapsody was a misfire.

I've been thinking about the trailer on the drive into work, so at some level it worked. Who is that crazy looking guy (the one who ducks behind the car to drink the beer-I think he's the one who starts the trailer). I want to like Harley Quinn. She looks great, and the performance looks committed, but the 'no, that's not really what they say' line seemed a bit too obvious. I really liked the 'stop and loot the purse' moment, but again, the 'what, we're bad guys' response was kind of giving away the joke.

i did not like the 'worst.heroes.ever' tag line.

That shot of the joker falling into that pool was excellent.

I suspect this trailer has a better tone than the movie itself will. A hell of a lot of quick cuts that were just bullet casings or face punches to a fun Queen song, which made for a wonderfully playful collection here but are just generic action shots without that container. The actual jokes from the movie were less funny.

The team kinda looked like a bunch of characters from Marvel movies, Vin Diesel scifi vehicles, and that movie where the girl ends up lobotomized by John Hamm were just tossed together. And that is still a dumber looking Joker than Adam West ever had to face.

But, so...benefit of the doubt. Suppose it manages to be as fun as the trailer is. That would then make it really hard to buy-in to the idea that this is supposed to be the same world as Man of Steel and Batman v Superman.

There was no dramatic arc suggested here. Just more 21st century hard-lean on the wish fulfillment moments. If the story is just another "watch them fight and then learn to work together" softshell then no thanks, I'm full.

I'm fine with shared-universe films having their own distinct feel. The push for a homogenized tonal approach is what has caused the Marvel movies to start feeling stale and samey.

I'm not necessarily concerned with it either (I'd rather vote for 'fewer shared universe films,'). That was more of an observation. And god knows we dont need more Man of Steel toned films.

If this is bad, I suppose it will be because it fails to keep the tone of the trailer, doesn't offer enough sway in the way of story to make it a different movie than we've seen 30 times before, has shitty characters, or tips over that line into total adolescence that it is clearly walking. At this point, any story that is about a team of mismatched charicatures characters learning to work together just sounds excruciating, so hopefully it's got a good twist to put on that (or just bypasses it for a better angle).

Just saying that Marvel never even begins to approach that level of cinematic visual.
