How are they togher than hockey players? Hockey is the only sport where soft tissue injuries, broken bones, concussions, lacerations and contussions are all a regular part of the game. Throw in an enclosed playing surface where the boards are the sidelines, players regularly diving in front of pucks going 80 mph, bareknuckled fisticuffs, the leveraged force of stick infractions and I don't see how wrestling can be seen as tougher.warehouse wrote:these wrestlers, numbnuts

olympic level wrestling practices can be over two hours. nothing but running, wrestling and body weight training. its physically the hardest sport to compete in. although u seem to base everything around injuries, so maybe we just have different criteria for "tough"surfndestroy wrote:How are they togher than hockey players? Wrestlers are fabulously tough athletes, much like football players. But the the risk of injury and the types of injuries they face during competition do not compare with hockey. To me, tough isn't two hours of extremely tough practice. Yes it's going to hurt and it's tough mentally but hte risk of injury is just not there. Diving in front of a slapshot is tough because of the high risk of injury. In that same way rodeo cowboys are tough because they do things regularly with a high risk of significant injury. This may harm me is a whole lot tougher than this is going to hurt. That hockey players do this within a team environment is even more outstanding. The 4th line player is not doing it for personal glory.warehouse wrote:olympic level wrestling practices can be over two hours. nothing but running, wrestling and body weight training. its physically the hardest sport to compete in. although u seem to base everything around injuries, so maybe we just have different criteria for "tough"surfndestroy wrote:How are they togher than hockey players? like i said, im not strictly using potential injury as a way to judge toughness, but i get where you are coming fromsurfndestroy wrote:Wrestlers are fabulously tough athletes, much like football players. Re: NHL Thread
this whole conversation is stupid because nobody (meaning me) made a claim that football or any other sport was more dangerous, or that another sport's athletes were tougher, than hockey and hockey players respectively. i was simply posting that football players "literally risk their lives" to win the championship trophy, just like hockey. so the statement that hockey is the only sport where this occurs is false.
moving on, if it's going to be daugy, than i really think kelly should center seguin and daugivans because kelly is tougher than peverley. with kelly centering paille and thornton, all the toughness is transferred to the 4th line and the 3rd line is smaller and softer.

I think they should dress 7 defensemen and just mix Paille and Thornton in here and there throughout the game. Sounds like they are going with Daugavins though.elliseamos wrote:this whole conversation is stupid because nobody (meaning me) made a claim that football or any other sport was more dangerous, or that another sport's athletes were tougher, than hockey and hockey players respectively. i was simply posting that football players "literally risk their lives" to win the championship trophy, just like hockey. so the statement that hockey is the only sport where this occurs is false.

I just think what you'd gain from a 7th D would be more than what you'd gain from Daugavins. The 4th line guys are going to get no minutes now either way, at least with Bartkowski you have a guy that can fill in on the PP, if one of the defensemen go down, or if it's a penalty ridden game.Self wrote:I would rather have Bark, too #s.numbers wrote:I think they should dress 7 defensemen and just mix Paille and Thornton in here and there throughout the game. Also, if you're going to dress a forward to replace Campbell, why not have it be a guy that can take draws like Soderberg? Faceoffs are the biggest thing they are going to miss from Campbells game.

The last minute of that game was intense.
I cant think of a better middle finger to throw in Iginla's face than sweeping the Penguins.

Re: NHL Thread
I just realized that not only did they sweep Pitt, they played over 200 straight minutes in this series without being behind.
