Well, while the success of the latest instalment has no doubt inspired Disney to keep December a Star Wars month for the foreseeable future, it sounds like script rewrites were the biggest factor behind the decision. "Obviously the December date worked out very (very) well for them but I've also heard they are rewriting the script," says The Hollywood Reporter's Borys Kit. "I've heard from several sources the rewrites are positive, based on audience reaction to the new characters. People loved them. So strongly. And Lucasfilm was surprised at how well they were received, according to several sources." As reasons for script changes go, this is actually a fantastic one!

Ok. Well, that is some definite fan-coddling then. I'm not very enthused by this news, tho I loved the big three.

Johnson original script was really dark and Disney were allowing him go at it and do what he wants, and all the crew and cast were singing its praises saying it was amazing, even Abrams said he wished he was on board to direct it.

It can only be a good sign but i doubt the pushback is *because* it needed to be rewritten..it didnt..theyre just taking advantage of the christmas market and spacing it out away from Rogue one.

what does play it safe mean? they arent afraid that this wont do well.. They can push the envelope here and not be confined and wont be confined by the usual Disney family ethic..if you think Johnson would stay on board having been controlled or told he doesnt havecreative control and free reign, youre wrong.

If he jumps ship, then ok, theyre being assholes. They wont go there and theyll leave him to it

Yeah, this smacks of "keep positive vibes in the press while you let the word out that the script is being studio-massaged."

Hire a capable, original writer to put it together, then chicken out and undo it all.
