Re: 2015 NFL Season
Tough way to lose, but really the Cardinal's line play hasn't been good. Not enough pass rush and the O-line has been mediocre to bad all year. Iupat making the Pro Bowl is a fucking joke and Veldheer had a shitty second-half of the season. Massie has also been disappointing. Major upgrades to the O-line are needed. As well as a decent pass rusher. They had a good year largely because of their skill players, but they really weren't able to "muscle" people around. Also, losing the Honey Badger was a big blow.
Pretty sure they'll end up keeping Floyd, he's scheduled to make $7M next season, but he had some big games after the hand injury. I suspect they may shop him around. They do have Smoke and J.J. Nelson waiting in the wings, but I doubt they straight-up cut him. Arians seems to have changed his mind on Floyd this year because of the hard work he put in during the off-season and in rehab.
As I said previously in this thread, Carson throws 5 to 6 terrible passes a game and the games that the Cards loss largely turned on whether those passes were caught or dropped by the defenders. He's clearly NOT their QB of the future, but despite these two bad playoff performances, he's still a top 10 QB leading into next year.
Thing is, a QB in BA's offense will be susceptible to INTs. He's super-aggressive and "chucking" the ball into tight coverage is part of the gameplan.

It's a tough position to be in with Palmer. Not like there are all kinds of other good qbs in the NFL.

Much like my guy Matt Ryan, lots of fools gold at QB in the NFL.
There are maybe 5 guys that can win, if you don't have one of those guys you're playing for a nice regular season, same with coaches, GMs and owners.
A lot of people fool themselves every year.

Re: 2015 NFL Season
Barnwell wrote earlier this season about how most second- and third-level QBs can waltz into a lucrative contract because of leverage, not actual skill. I'll try to find it, as it made a lot of sense, and explains pretty well why QB contracts keep expanding (and why a guy like Eli Manning is the third-highest paid QB in the league).

Re: 2015 NFL Season
Or we could ditch this idea that there is a QB binary where a guy is either awesome or sucks and acknowledge that winning in the playoffs is extremely hard. Carson Palmer has been a good to great QB when healthy, and he played against a great defense that was going all-out to try to make it to a Super Bowl. Is Tom Brady suddenly shitty because of his bad game against the Broncos? No, he just played an incredibly good defense and it didn't go his way.
Peyton Manning is the only QB to take multiple teams to the Super Bowl multiple times, yet people are STILL going to say shit like he's "not clutch" and "can't win big games." Winning a Super Bowl is one of the hardest things in the entire world. Let's stop acting like someone sucks if they fall short of it.

He has. Luck just plays such a huge part in the game as well. The shape of the ball itself makes the game inherently more random. It's one of the great things about the sport.
