I had 1987 Paul Molitor on my LCS Tournament team. I'll go back and check, but I think he was a solid enough fielder wherever I played him (and he was definitely one of my best offensive players).

I played 1987 Paul Molitor at first base for the entire season (including playoffs). He made six errors in seventy-three games.

hmm, a bit of a log jam at 1B with prince fielder and cecil cooper on the roster. how do you think molitor would fare at 3B?

You can always experiment and run simulations to see.

I have an autographed Pat Listach jersey somewhere at my parents house. My beloved Paul Molitor jersey was falling apart, so I asked for a new one for Christmas that year. When he signed with the Blue Jays a few weeks before that, I hastily decided I wanted a Pat Listach one instead. He signed it for me when we were on vacation in Arizona that spring and we went to see them play. Then he sucked forever. It was probably my fault. :-(

good call. molitor seems to hold up pretty well at second or third, but tommy harper sure likes to kick the ball around a lot. :?

what i mostly learned is i'm lucky to get 4-5 innings out of half a season sabathia. maybe i should put him in the pen.

whatif is highly unlikely to put a starter in out of the pen if there are any other relievers on the roster. It can be frustrating, but you have basically no control over how pitchers are used after the first pitch.
If Sabathia is on your roster but you never start him, he will never pitch.

you're killing me, argo. i appreciate your sage advice, however.

sabathia was so good that year, it's tempting to put him in my 5th starter spot anyway.

We should just have chud tweet to whatif and ask them to fix their oversights on players who are traded midseason.

and the DH thing
If a player without any fielding grades listed for a particular position is inserted into that position, his skills at his primary position are translated to the new position. A designated hitter that did not play in the field is treated as a D-/D- first baseman. He is then slapped with a mandatory out of position penalty. From there, he is penalized for each spot he moves to the left on the Bill James' Defensive Spectrum. For example, moving Ozzie Smith from SS to 2B would still yield an above average 2B. Moving Jim Thome to SS, on the other hand, would result in an atrocious SS. Moving Thome to LF would not be as drastic a penalty since SS is a more difficult position.

shit, i just realized i have zero lefties in my pen (classic brewers). maybe if i keep sabathia, he would get some innings:
Q. If I have more than 1 pitcher set to the same role, how does the SimManager decide who to bring in?

A. The SimManager looks at the score, the runners on base and analyzes the the rightie/leftie makeup of the opposing lineup before picking one of your relievers. You currently can not indicate a preference.

When I was running the reds last season I wanted to get Votto in the lineup, but had Big Klu at first, so I moved Votto to third and he wasn't terrible, so I imagine Molitor would be fine there.

I'd be sad if there were a Brewers squad that didn't feature the Sac Man.
