I was feeling a little insane when I got home today, but all the talk about Real Gone in this thread reminded me that that is a good album to use in a situation like this. I feel much better now.

The barn leaned over
The vultures dried their wings
The moon climbed up an empty sky
The sun sank down behind the tree
On the hill
There's a killer and he's coming
Thru the rye
But maybe he's the Father
Of that lost little girl
It's hard to tell in this light

Goddamn I love how much I can infer, all the places my head can go at the end of a Tom Waits line. Jesus! There are so many possibilities between his words.

Don't Go Into That Barn is such magnificent straight-faced camp.

Oh, you're alone alright. You're alone alright.
How did I know?

Don't Go Into That Barn scares the shit right out of me. There ain't nothing campy about it, friend. It's pure ice cold horror.

I'm close to heaven
Crushed at the gate
They sharpen their knives
On my mistakes
What she done you can't
Give it a name
Just make it rain

Without her love
Without your kiss
Hell can't burn me
More than this
I'm burning up all this pain
Open up the heavens
Make it rain

I'm born to trouble
I'm born to fate
Inside a
Promise I can't escape
It's the same old world
But nothing looks the same
Make it rain

I think that Make It Rain on Letterman is the best thing he's ever done live. I used it to try to win people over to my carnival barker that I was becoming obsessed with. Didn't win everyone over, but they're idiots.

I actually think my favorite performance of Make it Rain is from that Akron, Oh broadcast from...0?

I'll have to pull it off an old ipod, but I can get them to you a little later.
