1. Stats are not REQUIRED to be kept, but it is strongly recommended. Takes about 5 minutes a day and is not difficult to keep up with if you do it every day or two. anything longer than that starts to feel like a chore
2. No Roster Changes once the season starts.
3. If you select more than I think 6 SP, it will put the others in the bullpen- and you wont be able to use them as starters at all. And you don't get to pick which ones get assigned where.
4. In game management is all up to the SIM. it picks your pinch hitters, relief pitchers, etc. Each Game is run independently of one another, so you could, in theory have your closer blow 4 games in a row.
5. Have an extra starter (at least 1) beyond your planned rotation. Inevitably, one of the guys you were counting on being dominating will get lit the fuck up.
6. Don't overlook the importance of some platoons, even with all time greats. Don't base your entire roster on them (i tried that once. It went poorly).
7. Positions matter.... kinda. When building your team, you need to have all position slots filled out with a guy that was assigned to that position. From there when you're setting your lineup, you can assign anyone to any position. Sometimes it works out. Sometimes it will kill your team.
8. To make it easier to run the games, Name your team (for example) WIERSvsRHP. Then make another team and import the roster from the first, and then name that team WIERSvsLHP. This will let you set lineups for against both types of starters so that the guys running the games dont have to adjust your lineups for you all the time. All you have to do to get a lineup to save is simulate a game using that lineup. Usually I have my SkitchVsRHP play a game against my SkitchVsLHP with the lineups how I want them. This also makes it easier because you dont have to report your lineup changes to anyone, you just change them as you see fit.
9. You can organize your rotation however you want, within the rotation rules that lament has in the OP, BUT if you deviate from it, you must post it in the thread so that whoever is running the game knows who you want to start.
10. Whatif does not allow for a DH unfortunately. So if you want 1996 Mark McGwire's bat in the lineup, you'll have to sit Jimmie Foxx- or find a position where their defense wont kill you.
11. You will get very very mad at the AI of Whatif. It may decide that Carney Lansford is your best pinch hitter and use him every damn game in that role, even if you know he's been 0-17 as a pinch hitter. We all get used to it.
12. EH Ruddock is a veteran of our armed forces and he really wants you to have rickey henderson on your team.
Does that mostly cover it guys?

Wiers is in! I think he's going to start making his A's team tonight!
Guys, we have an honest go goodness MLB writer for a major site involved in our nonsense. We're legitimate! I bet he writes a column on how stats have impacted all corners of the internet!
