I thought the special had some good moments, but the self-referential stuff was a bit tacky.turned2black wrote:Anthony Jeselnik's new Netflix special is pretty meh. Shock comedy is really only good with a decent set-up and delivery. I find most of what he does to not be particularly clever and kinda tedious. It's way more "Family Guy" than "South Park".

I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

i watched that live last night and it was terrible.tragabigzanda wrote:I love Seinfeld, but I think this is the weakest five minutes I've ever seen him do. Didn't laugh once.
i think i get annoyed by his stand up now, especially his modern stand up, bc my nephew tries to act just like that. i don't know if he has this pipe dream of being a stand up comic, or what. but his cadence, his setup, his punchlines to his stories.... all modeled after Seinfeld. even when you're just trying to have a conversation with him. it's maddening.

Re: The Stand-up Comedian Thread
I'm not sure if the blind hate from her detractors or blind faith from her supporters is worse. Stealing jokes/premises is a really shitty thing to do and I'm not sure why I saw people like Judd Apatow and Kumail Najiani defending that "she doesn't need to steal jokes" cuz of how funny she is; that doesn't mean you get free reign. I get that she's propped up because she's not typically attractive and talks like a guy while being funny and her show has done some smart bits, but those bits she's getting shit for are a little too close to the other comics bits to just be parallel thinking.bodysnatcher wrote:I love that Amy Schumer is getting called out for stealing jokes

Like mecca, I'm more interested in the backlash of the Amy Schumer stuff than I am in the actual fact that she almost definitely lifted material. People are reacting like she walked into their house, ate their food, raped their mother, and killed their cat. It's the purest, most committed vitriol I've seen since True Detective Season 2.

Yeah, her standup -- right now -- is extremely predictable. Her show is more entertaining. But her standup is terribly boring.Stickman wrote:It's because her tv show is brilliant. Her standup is so-so.Peeps wrote:Amy Schumer, i just dont get the love for her
