Re: The Work-Out Thread
Got in a good 90 minute workout this morning; my Saturday morning ones are consistently the best ones of the week.
Weighed myself afterwards and I've lost a few pounds. For a lot of guys this would be good but I don't particularly need it. I know my summer (lack of an) appetite has kicked in but I don't know when the last time I was under 160. I'd love to have a little more mass but at 5 10 with a small frame I realized long ago I'd rather want to be a bit bigger than want to lose weight.

Running rim-to-rim at the Grand Canyon. Just secured a motel room at the North Rim. Super pumped to run it and also excited to see the North Rim, which I haven't been to since I was a kid.turned2black wrote:Wife is going to my mom's place with ALL the kids from the 17th to the 24th. Going up north for some trail running while they are away. I may hit Sedona. I'm gettin' the leg twitches just thinking about it.
5:30 is my goal time. That'll mean I'll actually be able to slow down and enjoy the greatest place on Earth.
9 days to train.

I've been doing planks three times a week for the past three weeks. They still hurt. Man.

7.5 miles with ~1,000 elevation gain in 71 minutes
100+ degrees when I started. Took it really easy and brought water with me, which I never do for runs under 10 miles. Felt surprisingly good and relaxed. Resisted any temptation to speed it up. No finishing kick. Trail was dead empty as only an idiot would be out there on a 110 degree day.

Re: The Work-Out Thread
Last week I went out when the actual temp was like 91 but weather (dot) com said it felt like 96. Kicked my ass. Barely finished 5 miles at well over a 10 min pace. Sucked. I can't imagine running in 110 degrees. Blech!

Re: The Work-Out Thread
Doubled up my workout routine by going on back to back days. Knocked back some weights slightly and only did a mile and a quarter on the treadmill but certainly worked up a sweat and felt my muscles tire. Off day tomorrow and then back at it Tuesday.

10 miles in 69 minutes
Back to the gym and landed a treadmill right under an A/C vent. Felt great. Quarter-mile finishing kick. 3 hours in the pool with the kids afterward.

Run barefoot without looking like a five toed idiot with these chainmail shoes. Constructed with a minimalistic stainless steel design, these chainmail shoes are perfect barefoot running which will strengthen foot and leg muscles that are typically undeveloped.

Re: The Work-Out Thread
Bought some new running shoes to transition my feather 2's into retirement:

Got a 10k coming up in July.....I haven't been running long distances but i'm playing soccer 2 nights a week along with my standard runs. The soccer is really doing wonders for my endurance levels. It pays to have a high work rate and track back on defense. I haven't felt strained at all running lately.

Re: The Work-Out Thread
4 miles in 27 minutes + 6.25 miles with 2,400 elevation gain in 60 minutes
Hit the gym and mixed things up on the treadmill. Did four 6:45ish miles, then did some hill work. I usually do this at about 4.5 or 5 percent incline and run at 8:30ish pace. I cranked up the incline this time and ran at a slower pace. I think this will serve me better for the steep-as-fuck climb up the North Rim on Sunday. Did the hill work for an hour and was pretty much just a puddle of sweat at the end. Pretty intense hour and a half of training. I just don't have the time to slog out 3 or 4 hour runs anymore, so I'll substitute intensity for miles.

When it comes to running, I try to turn my brain off. In an ultra, if I think about the mileage I still have to go, I get down on myself. I just try to "zone out" and let my mind wander. I'll sometimes get a weird kind of "out-of-body" experience. It's my way of dealing with the pain.warehouse wrote:i find thinking is usually detrimental to anything im doing

Pretty much a balls-out effort.
