I'm tempted to go see the premiere in a movie theater, but I can't justify the price.

Re: Kanye West
It's stuff like this that I have a problem with:
This is just bullshit. Through the Wire is a great song, but lots of great rap music had been made before it, people like this just probably didn't listen to any of it. Kanye doesn't make (white) people uncomfortable, so they think his music is way more revolutionary than it actually is.Nothing in commercial rap until that point had managed to combine such vulnerable text, non-violently visceral real-life experience, and unabashedly expressive sampling. West here has seamlessly introduced new elements to both rapping and hip-hop sound production.

Re: Kanye West
That statement is obviously ignorant, but that doesn't mean we should undersell the significance and insight of Kanye's music. He, like Michael Jackson did before him, is pushing pop music forward both aesthetically and as a sociopolitical and personal art form. He's certainly a revolutionary artist - that quote just misrepresents why.Orpheus wrote:It's stuff like this that I have a problem with:

Alright I think I'm done listening to this now. No staying power. LV will like it though.

What would have to happen for him to not love this album?verb_to_trust wrote:Alright I think I'm done listening to this now. No staying power. LV will like it though.
