That's good news for the bands involved if perhaps not so much for those chasing refunds from the 2016 festival. The demise of Australia's largest remaining rock festival – which allegedly had profits of $13 million in 2013 – will be a shock to many, but it was a long time coming.
For the past year, creditors have been attempting to have Maddah's company wound up over outstanding debts. Some suppliers for the 2014 festival were reportedly forced to wait up to 10 months to be paid.
In early October 2015, a creditors' meeting heard Soundwave owed more than $11 million to some of the biggest acts in the world, including Seattle grunge pioneers Soundgarden ($2.1 million), mask-wearing metal act Slipknot ($1.6 million), and Billy Corgan's group Smashing Pumpkins ($1.2 million).
Burton Bell, frontman of Californian metal band Fear Factory, told Fairfax Media in October he became aware of Maddah's financial issues in February while playing the Adelaide leg of the 2015 festival.
"AJ owes my band a lot of money," he said. "We fear we will never see that money. My family has suffered financial hardship since the Soundwave tour."
By the time of a second meeting of creditors on October 29, Maddah had settled his tab with the musicians – a crucial act if he were ever to stage another music festival – but his company's debts were still estimated to be at least $13 million and possibly "in excess of $25 million", according to administrator Deloitte.

I think I've said it before in this thread but can't remember--A Thousand Days Before is a top 10 Soundgarden song, easily. If they release another album with at least one song of that caliber, I will be a happy man.

Agreed.Kevin Davis wrote:All told I think "Zero Chance" is my favorite Soundgarden song.
Made a best-of cdr compilation for my car recently. I think this rocks:
Flower (Dusseldorf 90)
Hands all Over (Dusseldorf 90)
Gun (Dusseldorf 90) [the band was on fire here, though I think they shot their load after these 3 songs, the rest of the set was "meh!"]
Beyond the Wheel (Toronto 93) [what a vocal from Cornell]
Blind Dogs (Seattle 95)
Black Days III (Seattle 95)
Kyle Petty (Seattle 95)
No Attention (Seattle 95) [simply couldn't split any of the Self Pollution set, great performance & great sound]
Head Down [best song on Superunknown, even Cornell knew it was special when Ben brought it in]
Pretty Noose
Rhinosuar
Zero Chance [the best 1,2,3 I've ever heard on any album]
Nothing to Say (Seattle 96) [definitive crushing version, Cornell's voice benefits from the rest before this show. More of I-5 should've come from the Seattle shows]
Black Rain
Live to Rise
Taree
Attrition [Ben strikes again - the man is awesome]

With DOTUS turning 20 this year and BMF turning 25 this year, do you think we'll see any reissues, etc?
I was hoping something would be announced with the revamped website.
I know Kim was talking about doing something for BMF when they Superunknown reissue came out.

Re: Total Fucking Godhead / The Soundgarden Thread
But to the question of a BMF reissue: We can live in hope. As you say, ilpazzo, Kim has previously talked about his desire to nurture the band's musical legacy by way of reissues and the band should be in heavy contact this year thanks to the recording of their new record, so there's no good reason not to revisit the BMF sessions and see what should be done. I imagine that an expanded vinyl collector's release would be the best means, much like their previous efforts.

I was of the understanding that Kim and Jack Endino had been working on a remixed Ultramega OK, I hope we'll see the fruits of that labour soon.

i go in a concentrated rotation. it's been Louder than Love for the last few months. before that was DOTU. Before that superunknown. prior to that Badmotorfinger. and before that, King Animal.
and that's basically been the last few years of my life right there.

Re: Total Fucking Godhead / The Soundgarden Thread
I have mixed feelings on this -- remastering to align with current media standards is one thing, but I don't see a huge difference between after-the-fact album remixes and what Pearl Jam did on "Lost Dogs." It certainly threatens to have the same lasting effect on people's impression of the record, the same way 90% of Grateful Dead fans (me included) own Jerry Garcia's "fixed" version of "Aoxomoxoa," instead of the original. I dunno -- I'm really just kind of a fan of letting your work stand and correcting your mistakes on future works. When bands start tinkering obsessively with old albums, it's usually a sign to me that they don't really have a lot else to focus on.Birds in Hell wrote:I was of the understanding that Kim and Jack Endino had been working on a remixed Ultramega OK, I hope we'll see the fruits of that labour soon.
