Round 1F: Last Soldier vs. Swallowed Whole vs. Of the Girl

Sliding Of the Girl into the opening spot on my "Binaural + B-Sides" mix has done wonders for my appreciation of it.

People around here seem to really like Swallowed Whole, as far as Lightning Bolt songs go, anyway. But it drew the short straw. There's no way it can stand up to Of the Girl.

Well, that hasn't been my impression... but that certainly makes me feel much better about voting against it!

It seems like I'm really one of a handful that doesn't really care for it. Or at least that's what it felt like in the months after the album dropped. Maybe that's shifted some. I don't know. I don't post a lot in PJ Chat anymore. Unless it's March Madness.

I like almost every song on LB more than SW.

That's why I'm in love with you, though.

It would be my favorite album opener in their catalog, had it, you know, actually been an album opener. That fucker belongs at the beginning.

I like it as a show opener, but on Binaural, I think Of The Girl works perfectly as the moody aftermath of Insignificance. It eases you into the last half of the record.

Anyways, I like parts of Swallowed Whole and enjoy Last Soldier (PJ doesn't have too many songs like this, that got played once or twice live, seemingly complete, and then just got forgotten), but it's Of The Girl easily.

I barely remember Last Soldier, I might change my vote if I listen to it.

I get a lot of the love Swallowed Whole receives, but for some reason I seem to find Ed's vocals to be a bit grating (First time I've used this expression). Of the Girl is one of my faves.

I like the idea of Swallowed Whole but I don't think the final product hangs together very well, the bridge and solo section is the best part but I'm not sure rest of the song is strong enough to support them.

I never remember how Last Soldier goes. As soon as I've heard it, every memory of it just falls out of my brain.

Of the Girl, obviously. It's fantastic.

"Swallowed Whole" is one of my favorite tracks on "LB," and I like what digster said about "Last Soldier" -- it's a nice song made nicer by having been left to remain in its moment.

But no, neither of them are "Of the Girl."

I actually enjoy Swallowed Whole... I'm sure it could have been a much better song than the final product but I still really enjoy it..... but it is up against OTG which is great despite being slightly over-rated.
