Just had copies of "Ziggy Stardust," "Station to Station," "Low," and "Heroes" delivered to my doorstep. Gonna be doing some listening tonight.

Oh and i was wrong about GaGa.
She did a fitting tribute, i just never realised what a buffoon Bowie was before the Lady made it so obvious.

i didn't see the whole thing and i love Gaga, but it looked bad in the sense that it was too manic and rushed.

It was very forced. I thought the performance was bad, and I'm a Gaga fan.

I love Gaga's music but that Grammy performance was embarrassing.

yep, but I'm not a gaga fan...its was more of feat of stage management not artistic connection..I didn't watch the grammy's but how hard would it be to put together a minute or two of text footage to show how each influenced their heirs?

Medleys are a bad idea. They're like the All-You-Can-Eat buffets of tribute performances. A little bit of this, some of that, and you end up with the piss-shits.

Picking someone because it vaguely shares an extravagant public image (that Bowie ditched 40 years ago) is a bad idea.
She did an amazing Sound of Music medley at the Oscars because that's what she was a brilliant choice for. Bowie not so much.

That "Sound of Music" thing was like 3 or 4 songs though. Here she tried to fit 10 tunes into the performance and the results were discombobulating.

Her voice also did not lend itself to the material. She sounded like Liza Minnelli.

It's what i was getting at. It's always a medley in these cases. A series of full songs is rarely performed for tributes.
She proved to be more shtick than talent as i wrote earlier. I actually like her voice and she's obviously trained and educated but she doesn't have the kind of artistic sensibility she needed to do any better than she did or pick 3 songs instead of 10.
I can't understand what reasons she had to sing in such a mockery inflection. At a certain point she sounded like a severely intoxicated Elvis impersonator and i can't understand what was the point of that.

It all seemed to be functional to a vegas lounge like performance the arrangements included. Heroes in particular seemed a pointless rework considering it was so short and with that big chorus it's not really difficult to work in a medley as is.

Well, thankfully I covered my ass with that "probably" clause.
