I think Jamie has inner reserves we don't fully appreciate

For whatever it's worth, I basically flipped a coin mentally. I think Selmy would have more personal motivation in this fight, but I don't know if his dislike for Jaime would help or hurt him.

I had this at roughly 50/50. But I think Selmy needs every vote he can get here. Losing one is a tough blow.

Jaime already won this and by the time the thread wraps up, it will be at 100 pages, which is when I'll go back and delete every post I've made in it, dropping the total to 99 right before it gets locked.

I think Jaime likely approaches this with his usual blithe disregard for his opponent, whereas Selmy comes in seeking vengeance for the ghosts of the past. Vengeance for the prince he failed, for the king whose blood stained Jaimes sword, and for the Queen his sword is currently pledged to. And, as we saw during the defiance of Duskendale, no odds are too long for Barristan when everything is on the line.

Selmy is one of the few opponents Jamie would be immediately all in for.

Jaime didn't develop any humility until after Zollo the Fat took his sword hand. Jaime Twohands was unbelievably smug and arrogant, and Barristan is old. I think Jaime takes him too lightly for that very reason, and it costs him.

This isn't a question of humility--it's a matter of threat assessment, and I think Jamie, who has been watching him fight all his life, knows exactly who he is fighting.

Not that he'd publicly admit it
