I'm pretty sure they're not omitting mentions of Beth for the fans; I suspect Ed is probably doing it for himself and his current wife. And honestly, while as a listener I find it frustrating, as a husband I completely understand and respect why he does it.

That said, I would much prefer they do it this way and just omit the song altogether, rather than genetically modify the actual content of the song a la "Oceans" from Unplugged.
I kind of feel like having to go through the act of discussing and then excising something like that would be an extremely more awkward situation than just finding some other performance, or even just leaving it in.
agreed. "yeah hun, i used to be in love w/ that woman, thats why i sang her name". is that gonna end a marriage?

I would assume that these thoughts have crossed people's minds, and if no one was bothered they wouldn't be doing it.

Maybe Beth has threatened to sue his ass? I dont know. Maybe she is pissed that she was cut out of his life cause she was a coont? Using her name in a song and selling the show? I dont know. Its the only really logical explanation

Yes, the only logical explanation is two different scenarios where the woman is a hysterical shrew. Nice one, lady-hater.

its just as logical, coming from complete assumptions on our part, as thinking Jill is a ho or Ed is a douche.

Maybe....

Maybe Eddie heard it being played back and thought 'omg i can't believe i sang her name, oh what a fool i was, can we get rid of it' and they did. And whoever's in charge of this shit figured the same applied any other time it came up.

Idk it doesnt bother me that much. Not until this starts happening anyway

all those not for you's with the "small my table/sits just two.. me and beth" bits leave plenty of opportunities for eddie to piss us off in future vault releases.

im pretty sure he did it all the way back in 94 on SNL, and ive seen it replayed a ton on Comedy Central, so no matter how much editing gets done, it will still be in places like that, though i dont imagine they will try to see a boot of the SNL performances they have done

well, since eddie has a lot of free time these days (being semi-retired and all), i bet he spends a lot of time hidden away in his yoda cave watching old footage and listening to old tapes, flagging anything with any mention of she-who-should-not-be-named, so that his 10c flunkies can eventually scrub it out of existence.

It's not about shallowness, or about whether or not it's going to immediately result in a divorce; it's probably just a general respect Ed is trying to show his current wife. I mean, I know my wife had men in her life before me, but I wouldn't necessarily want her releasing any of her love letters to them to the public.

You could probably make a decent youtube clip series of grammatically corrected rock songs.

Not to get off topic, but would anyone have disliked it if the band hand spliced in the missing part of PM,PM from an audience recording?
