the making of Dan Auerbach's "Keep it Hid"
hey, first post here... thought some of you might be interested in this
i am finally able to unveil a very special HEAD MEDICINE world exclusive: the first ever behind the scenes look at the classic 2009 Dan Auerbach solo album "Keep it Hid." it's an album that still ranks as some of Auerbach's finest material, and acted as a sonic template for the hugely successful Black Keys records that would follow. "Keep it Hid" also served as a training ground for production and engineering techniques that directly led to his 2013 Producer of the Year Grammy Award. for a variety of reasons, virtually no information about its recording exists, but that is about to change.
Part One of "Keep it Hid No More" features an in-depth, first ever interview with co-producer/engineer/multi-instrumentalist/drummer Bob Cesare who mentored Auerbach and was present on a molecular level with the creation of the album. Cesare offers a fascinating look behind the curtain and i couldn't be any more excited to share it with the world.
thanks for looking!

Yeah, this record's pretty good...definitely like this rootsy direction more than the pop cash-out direction they're currently heading down.

I'd like to check this out. I never listened to the album. I've kind of soured on the Black Keys after seeing them live, but would really like to see what Auerbach can do when he's on his own.

Did you like their first 3 records? Just out of curiosity, not saying they're in the same vein.theplatypus wrote:I'd like to check this out. I never listened to the album. Re: the making of Dan Auerbach's "Keep it Hid"
the closest the Black Keys came to this sound IMHO was with Rubber Factory. A song like "Trouble Weighs a Ton" style wise, was never explored by him/them until this Solo album. Production wise, it falls in line with their first three albums. Song depth on "Keep it Hid" prevented me from getting bored by him, and setting precident for some of their later albums.
