to be honest, I mostly bought it for the ea sports games and the new star wars (things I couldn't get on my kids' existing Wii U). but I'm playing the new call of duty right now and am pretty hooked.

Not at all. That game is awesome. I would recommend Rocket League on your PS4. Great game and your kids will love it.

Luckily you level up fast. Make food and chems and build stuff whenever possible since all those things give you EXP as well. You'll get the hang of it.

I finished The Wolf Amongst Us today. Typical Telltale. No complaints - what I was expecting.

Any updates on The Witness?

Haven't had a chance to play it yet. I'll let you know.

This damn bathroom remodel has prevented me from playing much. Still haven't started The Witness because I want time to devote to it.

Started playing it the other day and I'm several puzzles in. Man, the ones where you can solve a puzzle three different ways but it arbitrarily decides which one is right are the worst.

It's so hard to look up help for the game too without being spoiled on something else. Take the one I mentioned above. I've watched three different beginning walkthroughs and none of them go that direction. They all look at the black cable and wonder, "Huh, where does that go?" and then promptly forget about it because the game is so big and you can go anywhere once the gate is open. I'm sure it's buried somewhere in a video but I'm not about to spoil part of the game just to see what others think about that one puzzle that's annoying me.

You're telling me. Good news, the bathroom is one hung mirror and a light fixture away from being done.

I'm going to strongly resist the temptation to use any guides for the Witness. I want to go into it completely blind.

I've only watched to the point where they start to go somewhere I've not been and then I turn it off. I'm just trying to figure out the one puzzle and why I "figured" it out when all I really did was go the way they wanted me to. I don't know what the puzzle was trying to teach me, or even if it was trying to teach me anything at all.

Played the 2nd Beta for The Division. Tried it in PC this time, my rig isn't really up to scratch but it performed fairly well considering. Teamed up with some mates, and it was actually fun to play the campaigns as a team. Good stuff.

I played with a pal last night for too many hours. I like it a lot -- I'll reserve the word "love" until I see what else the full version offers.

It's a very tactical game. My friend and I had way better luck (both in the campaign and the dark zone) when we approached a situation with a plan, equipped abilities that made sense for the situation, and found good firing positions. The graphics are mostly excellent, with some notable exceptions; but the informative GUI (friends, enemies, mission objectives, etc) is pretty cluttered and difficult to learn on the fly.

Some of the controls and cover interactions feel really counter-intuitive. I have to press O to mount a ladder, then climb the ladder with the directional stick? In any other game, my character would just mount the ladder as you approach it. There's no jump button, and at one point I ran straight into a dog and he just stood there and barked at me. I had to actually back up, then go around the dog -- my character wsn't smart enough to just hop over him, nor would the dog move out of my way. And having to press X to disengage cover mode and resume normal running is stupid. But I do love the "hold X to run to next cover location" function; I think this is one of the best elements of combat, and it's executed perfectly.

The loot and inventory stats are a bit mind-boggling, though I'm sure it will make more sense with time. I like the concept of building up your home base with different facilities and skills. It's the first time I've seen this, but I understand Fallout does something similar?

The campaign missions are fun, but the actual story and characters are not even remotely compelling, at least in the beta. The Dark Zone is where the game shines, and my buddy and I had great fun attacking our team mates as they were extracting their gear, then taking cover once we were labeled "rogues."

This was the game I was most looking forward to before buying my PS4, and I am still undecided. I think that if I could get one or two friends who also purchased the game, and we co-op'd, it could be a blast. But the single player campaign feels pretty one-dimensional and lonely, while the Dark Zone feels dangerous and exciting. To the game's credit, playing the campaign in co-op mode was seamless; my buddy and I experienced everything in sync, shared major cut scenes together, and minor cut scenes could easily be skipped if my buddy had already completed it -- he could just fill me in on what we missed, and we'd be on our way.

One dismal element is that all the AI enemies are African-Americans in hoodies. What the fuck?!

Just finished Far Cry 4 a couple days ago, absolutely loved it. I'm on the fence about Primal. The lack of modern weaponry might be a deal-breaker -- clubs and spears can only be fun for so long, you know?
