I'd say its more likely that the girl really hurt Ed, and misguided or not he wanted to remove the memory of her from that recording.

I was only about 3-4 songs in when I decided that I should definitely buy the vinyl edition. Damn!

It's good. Hearing it, and that "Brain of J" that was on pj.com from the Australian tour makes me want all of 1998 so bad. That version of Brain of J was the absolute best version of it I've ever heard; it was Pearl Jam at the top of their game. I wish I would have make more of an effort to see them that tour, but I did get 2 shows (Tibetan Freedom and Greenville, SC).Simple Torture wrote:I was only about 3-4 songs in when I decided that I should definitely buy the vinyl edition. Even if Ed´s voice is very different now, specially in his power and delivery in some songs, he hasnt changed that much.darth_vedder wrote:It's good. I don't know. The new boots just don't do it for me (although the Lima that was recommended to me is great). Also, it was more the band than anything I was referring to. They were just insanely tight. Check out that "Brain of J" from Australia '98...I think it's PJ at their absolute best (especially Mike, Stone, Jeff and Jack).VinylGuy wrote:Even if Ed´s voice is very different now, specially in his power and delivery in some songs, he hasnt changed that much.darth_vedder wrote:It's good. He sounds more airy to me. I'm not sure if that's the right word to use, but the barritone doesn't seem to be there as much. Then there is the warble thing...I hear it in the Constitution Hall show during Given To Fly ("he got wup outta there..."), so maybe that is the tour it started? Seems to mee that that it's just gotten worse. Like when I heard the Toronto show from 2011, it was the first time in a long time I've listened to a recent boot, and I was taken back how bad the warble was.VinylGuy wrote:darth_vedder wrote:I don't know. They did leave in the thank you before Soldier Of Love to the 'cool women' of Hovercraft: "playing with Pearl Jam for the first time, which is nice for me"...tommymctom wrote:LazyB wrote:Someone save me some reading. What did they hack out of this boot?
Whatever the reason behind the de-Bething, they probably figure only a very small proportion of consumers (i.e. us nerds) will even notice, so why the hell not...

Is it possible that Beth is the reason these references are left out? Everyone assume that Ed chooses to leave them out. Maybe Beth has threatened legal action.
Everything's perfectly all right now. We're fine. We're all fine here, now, thank you. How are you?

I have no idea. Perhaps using her name to sing a song and sell it for profit? No clue. Or maybe she threatened to drive into eds big fancy house if he kept putting bootlegs out with him talking about her

Seems doubtful:
In any event, they've been apart for 14 years, and while I don't presume to know much about her feelings on the matter, I doubt she keeps close tabs on upcoming Pearl Jam releases for potential mentions of her name. From what I understand she has a family now and has moved on with her life.As a general matter, you will not be held liable for using someone's name or likeness in a creative, entertaining, or artistic work that is transformative, meaning that you add some substantial creative element over and above the mere depiction of the person. In other words, the First Amendment ordinarily protects you if you use someone's name or likeness to create something new that is recognizably your own, rather than something that just evokes and exploits the person's identity.

I'm quite looking forward to having this on LP after listening to the whole concert last night.

You might be able to make a pretty good youtube series of you purchasing, then destroying limited edition PJ collectables. I can see it now: "1x01: Skitch burns posters from the '98 tour"

I agree that it's fairly unlikely, but then again, how likely is it that Ed or his wife feel strongly enough about these passing utterances as to force the mixers to cover them up or cut them prior to releasing an iconic performance. There's really no rational reason for these kind of edits.Birds in Hell wrote:http://www.dmlp.org/legal-guide/using-n ... ss-anotherStrat wrote:I have no idea.
