I'm already mourning the end of the Uncharted franchise and the last game isn't even out yet. Damn them!

Re: The all inclusive video game thread
got over a 1000 hours into Skyrim, probably more into Fallout 3. Those are my top 2 games of all time, up there with the first 3 Halos.
Fallout 4.....yeah its fun, love the weapon mods and ways to play around with them. as far as sweet questlines go, it was severely lacking. maybe i just wasn't finding the right NPC's, but simple kidnappings, and defending settlements and finding tech for BOS, all in all it was the same shite for whatever faction you were helping.
The creepy mission under the rock quarry was fun tho, the game needed more of that. That sword you get for going to the bottom of a well at the bottom of a cave system surrounded by zombies and shit, in the pitch black, way cool. But it needs more of that....
Just didn't grab me like Fallout 3 has. Or Skyrim.
But at the end of the day, Bethesda is raising the bar with every game they put out.

Re: The all inclusive video game thread
Yeah i know what you mean. Fallout 4 is crazy fun, but it's fun just from wandering the Commonwealth and discovering things. The new combat system is great too. But the whole radiant quest thing is kind of tiresome, other than that fact that it might give you a reason to visit a place you haven't been to yet. But i've been spending way too much time on these lately and I think i'm done for now. Maybe i'll circle back when i'm finished the game and need something to keep me going for a little while.Redemption wrote:got over a 1000 hours into Skyrim, probably more into Fallout 3. Also, I had no idea that quarry thing was part of a quest. I cleared that one during one of the factions radiant quests (BOS tech hunt maybe?) and i had no idea what was up with the flashbacks and the dagger underwater. It was a great location to clear out and the atmospherics were fantastic, but now that I know I was missing a whole questline I feel kind of cheated.

I have no idea what percentage I'm at, and I don't even know how to talk about it without possibly spoiling things. What's keeping me sane so far is the IGN page where they just discuss the puzzles and rules so that I can understand what I'm looking at better.

Re: The all inclusive video game thread
Just started Fallout 4 last night. Spent way too much time creating my character's face, then played through the intro, got to the diner/gas station, tinkered with the crafting options that aren't totally available to me yet, then shut it off. Some first impressions and a couple questions:mf wrote:Yeah i know what you mean. Fallout 4 is crazy fun, but it's fun just from wandering the Commonwealth and discovering things. -The game it most immediately reminds me of if Half-Life, at least in the movement mechanics. The character sure is stilted in the way he moves, but I'm sure I'll feel more badass as I level up and get new gear.
-While the environment graphics are gorgeous, the characters look so-so; there are way better character animations in Tomb Raider and Uncharted, but I suppose they have more power to dedicate to that stuff, given their relatively smaller environments.
-Total noob question: If I put items in a drawer or cabinet, can I then retrieve them from any other drawer elsewhere in the game? Or do I have to return to where I actually placed them?
-How "on rails" is the narrative/campaign play of this game? I'm just ready to start running around and exploring, but don't want to totally much up the story. Am I more or less free to roam around, and return to objectives as I see fit?
-Finally, sometimes I have difficult picking things up. Sometimes I'll press the button to pick up an item, and he'll put it in my inventory as intended; other times he'll seem to hold it out in front of him, and it follows me around wherever I go. What am I missing?

It's very open. You may want to do a few missions before you go exploring to toughen up a bit. I died a lot early on.tragabigzanda wrote:

It's the difference between pressing and holding the button.

Re: The all inclusive video game thread
Items stored in random drawers will stay where you left them. Eventually once you start settlement building, you can store items in a settlement's workbench and it will be available in all other settlements workbenches, but there are a couple of additional steps to make that happen. You need to have the Local Leader perk, and then you need to assign a settler to a supply route between the settlements. It's kind of confusing at first since they game doesn't really explain it. There are plenty of how-to videos on youtube that will explain the process better.tragabigzanda wrote:Total noob question: If I put items in a drawer or cabinet, can I then retrieve them from any other drawer elsewhere in the game? Not at all. You're completely free to play however you like. I've at level 40 right now and i don't think i've progressed the main story much at all.tragabigzanda wrote:How "on rails" is the narrative/campaign play of this game? Quickly pressing the pick up button (not sure what system you're using, but i believe it's X on PS4) should store the item in your inventory. Holding it down will allow you to manipulate the item in the enviroment. Like if you wanted to move something around for some reason. There is a bit of an exploit where you can pick up an owned item and move it away from prying eyes, and then once hidden you can add it to your inventory without triggering a negative response from the people you stole it from.tragabigzanda wrote:Finally, sometimes I have difficult picking things up. Link is fixed. I'm not far at all in the Witness, but I already can tell it is going to have me scribbling in a notebook soon.bune wrote:"this video is private"Monkey_Driven wrote:Started the Witness last night. I'm in love already.

I got a mission out at the glowing sea last night, so tonight I'm going to make the dangerous trek down there for the first time. Wish me luck.

I prefer to go stealth, so I never use the power armor. It just sits at the gas station (last time I went there one of the fucking settlers was walking around in it, so I pulled the core out of it)Monkey_Driven wrote:Wear your power armor and you'll be fine. Ok Fallout 4 players -- When can I start crafting? I finished the "When Freedom Calls" mission at the museum -- cleared the streets, beat the Deathclaw. Now Preston wants me to follow him to Sanctuary, which sounds fine...But I'm anxious to start tinkering at the gas station.

Re: The all inclusive video game thread
The sanctuary missions do cover some of the basics of settlement building, though.
