You should read the combined AFFC/ADWD when you get there.

I highly recommend this.
I feel like it will make the Feast of Crows material more enjoyable. That was a tough one to get through at times.
That was definitely where I noticed the biggest improvement, but it really aids the overall story to read it in a linear, chronological narrative. It also breaks up the never ending slog of Cersei chapters in AFFC, which infuriated me the first time I read it.
The Brienne chapters were worse.
No they weren't.

I'm downloading the audiobooks now. I've never listened to a book before.

Both Cersei's and Brienne's chapters were wonderful.

My main issue with Cersei's chapters lies less in the way they were written, and more in their frequency. IIRC, A Feast for Crows was the first book in which we got a Cersei POV and I find her to be both maddeningly smug and incredibly stupid. Which is, to be fair, the entire point. But without all of the characters who were split off into A Dance with Dragons, her POV's comprise nearly a quarter of the novel. Which I found to be taxing. The combined AFFC/ADWD spreads them out significantly, which makes her far more palatable, while also allowing Tyrions chapters to act as their thematic counterpoint.

He's definitely going to die before he finishes these books.

Ooooh. That could be fun. I haven't taken much time to consider who/what it might be. But I like that idea. I'm hoping he comes to something in the books. Sad he's no longer on the show.

He wouldn't betray Dany though, right? Too obvious probably.

Stannis is another possibility that sprang to mind.

But we believe Stannis is dead in the book too right? I mean as far as we know.

Oh ya. Never mind. I haven't read any of TWOW preview chapters, but isn't Stannis still alive in them? Timeline though...

I don't know. I haven't read any of those chapters either. I just know we've been told that he's dead in DwD. Unreliable narrator and all that. But that's what we've been told.

I have long suspected that Barristan was going to die during the Second Battle of Meereen, and his death on the show added a degree of certainty to it. I really hope I'm wrong, though.
