S/T did almost 280,000 in its opening week, and Backspacer did 189,000. Combine in the declining sales of music in general, I'd have to imagine Backspacer proably sits around 100,000 or so less than S/T. But I could be completely wrong.stip wrote:around the S/T level I think. It beat Riot Act. It may not have beaten S/TDr. Van Nostrand wrote:What kinda sales did backspacer do?

It also hung on waaaaaaay longer than S/T, and produced two much more successful radio singles than WWS. I wouldn't be surprised at all if it ended up around Binaural/ST numbers.Lament wrote:S/T did almost 280,000 in its opening week, and Backspacer did 189,000. Interesting that Rearviewmirror is such a big catalog seller. I know it's a greatest hits package, and those tend to do well, but by those numbers it'd be triple platinum before the end of next year.

It's all a little misleading anyway, for example I have four copies of "Ten" on CD in you include the re-release a few years ago. Those are sales, but it's not like they were sold to four different fans.

Regardless of the precise number, it's generally quite impressive how much they've continued to sell despite the music industry shitting itself and the band getting older.

Riot Act was pretty damn quiet when that was released without a solid radio hit. Backspacer, for better or worse, had the hell promoted out of it with 2 very successful songs.E.H. Ruddock wrote:Backspacer sold more than Riot Act?

Yep. Riot Act was the general era in which the public-at-large barely realized PJ was still releasing new albums. That's why there was so much hype around S/T as a "comeback" of sorts. The band realized they didn't want to fall too far out of people's thoughts, so they did a ton of promotion in '06. By their sales numbers, they kind of righted the ship at that point.Thejambi wrote:Riot Act was pretty damn quiet when that was released without a solid radio hit. wasn't I am Mine just as successful as WWS & the Fixer? I think Backspacer just had a better 2nd single in Just Breathe compared to Save You, and was a more accessible album than Riot Act.Thejambi wrote:Riot Act was pretty damn quiet when that was released without a solid radio hit. Only 2 years had passed between Yield to Binaural, and Binaural to Riot Act. Then 4 years to self-titled. That's probably why they promoted it more.evenslow wrote:Yep.
