I recently acquired self titled and happy in galoshes. STP is one of their most generic albums to me, not a lot of creative risks in the writing or performance. I do like a lot if the lyrics but not the choruses. I don't dislike the album, it's just not endearing or challenging. Last kiss from mars is my fav.

I've only had galoshes for a week. I think it is interesting so far. Scott really can pull off a lot of styles. I particularly like disc 1. 12 bar blues is much better.

I made this one a little while back. Pretty good flow. Some nice transitions. Had to adjust some volumes. Believe it or not it all fits on a CD.

I've been messing with one for a while but I only have like 5 or 6 boots of theirs.

I don't know what happened, but something clicked for me and all of a sudden I really like "Coma". I had never really been a fan of the song, usually skipping it fairly quickly, but when I did listen it didn't do anything for me. A couple days ago I found myself singing it and thought "what the fuck?". I was so confused. Why was I singing a song I didn't like? So I put the song on and my reaction was basically "What didn't I like about this? It's really good!". Over the last couple of days I've listened to it many times, and I love it. Shangri-La Dee Da just keeps getting better!

I like the eclectic vibe of "Shangri La" but at least half the songs just don't do it for me. It's pretty easily their low point for me, not counting the self-titled (which I've never heard).

I have a much greater appreciation for this album than I originally had. It really grew on me to the point that I vastly prefer it to Core, No.4, and S/T. There really are some great songs here if you spend some time with them and get to know them.

While I'm at it I may just have to admit Shangri-La Dee Da is my favorite STP album. I may still favor Purple (which has always been far and away my favorite), but I'm not even positive about that anymore. It certainly has passed Tiny Music. If you would have asked me four months ago if that would ever happen I would've looked at you like this Then I would've laughed. I can't believe that I basically overlooked this album for years and years. I'm so glad I finally found how truly great it is. But now I'm sadder then ever that Scott won't ever make more music with the band. But fuckn-a man, the DeLeo brothers can write some amazing rock songs.

I really enjoyed both of the mixes, Bada and Spenno. There were 5-6 in each that I wouldn't consider favs and it was nice to hear them in a different setting.

I've been listening to STP a lot this last week and it struck me what a great band of musicians they are. The guitar and bass interplay is wonderful, so many great bass parts. And Eric locks it together really well. They don't overplay too often and they really respect the song.

* Sex Type Thing is really heavy and powerful. I don't really enjoy the song anymore but once every so often it hits the spot. In fact Core took me back to 93. Is there a song that is more grunge lite than Plush? Maybe Dissident?

* Trippin has a wonderful solo. Really well thought out.

* Lady Picture Show. Man, I dislike it but I can appreciate the hooks, the solo, the production.

* Phat, I too really like Shangri-La Dee Da. I got it the week it was released, the week I met my wife. It takes me back man. It is a good album that hasn't worn thin on me at all. It's not my fav but it is probably the most listenable album for me.

* No.4 still has not revealed its charm to me. I have moments and I will try again.

I've made this playlist of tracks I've enjoyed on the recent listen with some lesser appreciated tracks (by me) alongside the favs (of which a few didn't make the cut - Interstate and Adhesive just didn't fit this list and I didn't want too many from Purple or TM).

I've enjoyed reading about your growing love for Shangra...It still hasn't clicked for me, but then I've not really tried since it came out. When Scott died, I went through a great realization that not only did I NOT hate No. 4, but I actually loved it -- now it's maybe my favorite STP album. Think I'll let Shangra just lay low until some day when I'm looking for a new rock record, then try to give it another whirl.

That album just surprised the shit out of me. The more I listened, the more I got out of it; the more I started to "get" stuff that I initially didn't quite like. It was a huge creeper. I'd wake up in the morning with songs stuck in my head that I had previously not thought too highly of, I'd go back and listen again and it would just make perfect sense. I have no idea why this album has had such an affect on me, but it has been so much fun falling in love with it all these years after it's release. I hope it clicks for you too.

No.4 is a lot like Avocado, for me. There are some strong songs there, but listening to the album as a whole is very difficult because the lows are very low, and several of the songs have very grating and harsh production that kills most of my possible enjoyment. I really love Atlanta, Down is solid to very good, Sour Girl is nice, and Glide is one of STP's best, but the rest of the album is below average to poor.
