Ever since Yield they would bring in personal demos for the whole band to hear and work on. That record opened up the songwriting process to the whole band more than ever. If I'm not mistaken, the whole "jam on the road" and "jam in the studio" stuff stopped with No Code.

Would love for them to try that again. Maybe that's one of the new approaches they talked about in South America. But I'll believe it when I hear it.

I like the whole "being less precious" about it. It doesnt need to be this huge event. It sounds like the thought of making a record becomes stressful for them because they feel they have to tour and do all this promotion. Make it a huge event.

Just go in and hammer out some tunes, loose, messy, organic, and release it. Doesn't need to be a world event.

For the first time since 1993's Vs., the band members did not go into the recording sessions with any completed songs, only guitar riffs.[4] Vedder admitted that the band "really went in with nothing."[7] The band sat around playing music together and discussed the song arrangements, and in just one week had completed ten songs.[3][8] Ament described it as a "real collaborative effort,"[3] and Vedder described it as "absolute democracy."[9] Guitarist Mike McCready stated that the band members were feeling "fresh and energetic" and "were communicating better than ever."[10] Toward the end of the sessions it came down to Vedder to finish up the material, with Ament observing that "the way the record started and the way that it finished is probably two different things."[11] Regarding his lyric writing process, Vedder said that he wrote at least four different sets of lyrics for each song,[12] with many going as high as eight.

Spoon, Wilco, Sonic Youth, TV On The Radio, etc, off the top of my head.

All of these bands invested in their own studios when they first got a little money, which has made the finances of their careers waaaaay easier to manage.

Doesn't Stone own Studio Litho?
