Re: RNDM
Peter Gabriel discovered and signed Joseph Arthur in the 90s so there you go.tragabigzanda wrote:Took one headphone listen last night. I like it a LOT -- there are some really great sounds going on to flush out what is, at the core, very simple songwriting. I really enjoy the relaxed, bittersweet vibe of the whole thing. My one big complaint is that the mix is very flat: parts that could explode feel kind of neutered. Doesn't seem like there's a lot of fader movement or creative use of compression; for the most part it feels like they dialed in some EQ and then just let the tracks ride.
Also, is anyone else getting an 80s Peter Gabriel vibe from this record?
Will definitely be listening a lot more.

Re: RNDM
Definitely check it out, Spenno. I like this one more than their last one, actually. So many great synth beats. So many great melodies. So much great layering. At least in the first 5 songs. That's all I've heard so far. But this is a really fucking great record.Birds in Hell wrote:Now I'm actually quite tempted to check it out.tragabigzanda wrote:Also, is anyone else getting an 80s Peter Gabriel vibe from this record?

And I'm not ready to call this one better than Bayleaf. But it might be better than Moonlander for me. But I want to give it time. It's hard to make that call this early. But I certainly don't think it's absurd to include it in the conversation if we're comparing first listens/first impressions.

I don't know. It's badass. But I still think NYC Freaks is better. But again, I've only heard everything once. I'll need to live with it for a while.VinylGuy wrote:Stumbling Down must be the best track of the year so far.

Re: RNDM
It's another solid effort, much like the first one I really dig about half the songs and the other half is just okay. But overall still far more interesting than the last few PJ outings! I think I was a bit disappointed at first since nothing really topped the first three songs we heard (title track, Stray, and NYC Freaks). That said, Trouble and Stumbling Down have grown on me significantly today. Right on with the Gabriel comparison, too.
