I'm ready for this season to start.EJ wrote:I don't remember if they are in different year for each season. But, the series started in 1981. And, they're on season 4 now. 1985ish.Monkey_Driven wrote:What year is it in the show's timeline? I'd be fascinated with a season dealing with the break up of the Soviet Union.
Unless they do some skipping ahead, I don't think they'll ever get to the fall of the USSR. I think the creators really want to just focus on the real heights of the Cold War. Maybe they'll get to the fall of the Berlin Wall?

The first episode was pretty good, it seems like this show is reaching its "beginning of the end" stage.

Really enjoyed this season. It was amazing before that mid-season reboot of sorts, but still remained strong after.

Re: TV: The Americans on FX
Strange season. They wrapped up a lot of character arcs - Nina, Martha, Gaad - in the first half of the season. The flash forward served absolutely no purpose, though. The Tim and Alice, William and Patty stories were not advanced whatsoever. In his death scene, William didn't blab much on screen, but I'm sure the husband and wife line will start Stan on the happy couple hunt. I think Paige would be open to becoming a spy as first alluded to in Season 2, but mom and pop won't allow that. It was strange that Kim appeared for exactly 1 scene and the mailbot bug was reintroduced, but abandoned in the finale in favor of going after William. I'm guessing that Oleg becomes the Rezident. The biggest unknown to next season is Phillip's son and how that will play out. It's only January 22, 1984 - plenty of Cold War left. I like the episodes, but I thought the whole was much less than the sum of it's parts.

It was weird second half, enjoyable but I thought the net would close in more then it did. The best season for me was the one which ended withe revaluation that the kid has killed his parents as part of the Russian spy program to bring kids in. Everything Philip didn't want to happen to,Paige has happened over the last two seasons.

Man oh man, this premiere was great. After a pretty uneventful last season, I have a feeling this one will be one to remember.

Yup. The opening montage was so good. It's unpossible not to contrast this with Homeland and see difference in how to the shows have evolved.Monkey_Driven wrote:Man oh man, this premiere was great. After a pretty uneventful last season, I have a feeling this one will be one to remember.

This past week's episode was fantastic. Noah Emmerich killed it in the car scene with Henry,

A few episodes behind, but this season has been really good so far. Building up to something horrible I imagine.

The last three or so eps of this season were some of the best of the series.

Indeed. It all fitted together really well, and focused on all the right elements. Very true to the spirit of the showEJ wrote:The last three or so eps of this season were some of the best of the series.
