Yeah, we'll see. You have to admire Franco's ambition.

Canne consensus:
Inside llewyn Davis: Favorable reviews. Classic Coens.
As I Lay Dying: Ambitious, but flawed Franco.
Apparently Joaquin Phoenix and Marion Cotillard are both phenomenal in James Gray's The Immigrant.
Still waiting on Only God Forgives, Nebraska, and Ain't Them Bodies Saints.

Only God Forgives getting mixed reviews at Cannes.
The complaints are that it's too languid, the story is thin, all style and no substance, and too distasteful with its excessive violence and pornography. So, a Refn film.
Oh well! can't wait!

Emotional score. I love the time period. The two leads look excellent. Cotillard seems to be at her best when she's allowed to be her foreigner self. It might be my most anticipated.

Wow, that trailer goes to hilarious lengths to present a documentary about a retired author like it's some grand, dramatic mystery.

I know it's like an edge of your seat thrill ride! And in reality I'll probably fall asleep. I still want to see it though.

Yes. And he has great taste too. The only problem is that he is so busy and prolific that I wonder if he is truly showcasing the best of his talents.

Re: Most anticipated movies from 2013
I like James Franco just fine. But I've yet to see anything that lifts him above the horizon line of average "young" hollywood. He's certainly nowhere near the level of his female peers. I don't know. I don't dislike the guy, but I'm not seeing what others are seeing. Yet.Harry Lime wrote:durdencommatyler wrote:Do you, though?Harry Lime wrote:Yeah, we'll see. I don't look at his acting chops. I look at what kind of projects he's trying to get off the ground. I count on established actors with money and connections to get a decent project funded. Brad Pitt's another guy I admire. Ever since 2007 and Jesse James.durdencommatyler wrote:I like James Franco just fine. But I don't see anything of him in James Franco. James Franco feels awfully pretentious by comparison.

He's not. He'll even poke fun at his "arty" side. Some of it is esoteric, but any guy who appreciates the southern gothic tale like I do is okay in my book.durdencommatyler wrote:I love Brad Pitt.Harry Lime wrote:I don't look at his acting chops. His "art project" published in The Coffin Factory is all the further evidence I require.Harry Lime wrote:He's not. He'll even poke fun at his "arty" side. But, yeah, I'm all about a good southern gothic tale. I've not yet read As I Lay Dying, but the trailer looks decent enough. I'll probably see it. Though, I'd like to read the book first.

James Franco is, by most accounts, an enormous self-important douchebag. The stories about him are pretty bad. He's an okay actor. I'm confused by how much work he seems to get.

I was trying to refrain for any kind of name calling because I've never met the man myself. But, yes. That's exactly what I've heard as well. And I feel the same way.

Listen to his appearance on Marc Maron's podcast. It's hilariously awkward.durdencommatyler wrote:Yep.theplatypus wrote:James Franco is, by most accounts, an enormous self-important douchebag. The stories about him are pretty bad. He's an okay actor. I'm confused by how much work he seems to get.
