Cool photo Zeb!

Here's the J File. It's got some cool interviews.

http://doublej.net.au/programs/jfiles/sleater-kinney

Are any of you dudes equipped to rip this from the stream?

I got edited down to a 15 second sound bite that was put into the intro for the podcast

Nice one! ;)

You can download the podcast version with your intro here (15 minute version).

And I've ripped the full 2 hour version (with heaps of live tracks from Corner Hotel 2002 and Big Day Out 2006 :nice:) and uploaded it here.

Great pic up there Zeb :nice:

The show at the Opera House was simply amazing on Sunday, if a little strange being a seated venue with a mostly sedated crowd. It took until 'Get Up' for anyone to actually do so, for which Corin stated her appreciation. We had awesome seats in the third row in front of Carrie - was so good to watch her rock-goddess-ness up close.

A funny thing happened during 'Entertain', Carrie broke a string half-way through and had to unload her guitar. They just kept playing while Carrie came and sat on the edge of the stage and screamed the third verse into the face of the front row who were still sitting down - the lyrics could not have been more perfect for this situation :)

I'm on a total S-K high at the moment and super jealous of my old hometown which are getting 3 sold-out club shows this week. So I decided to take the best of the pro-shot S-K shows from last year, and remaster the audio for an RB bootleg release - it's lossy but it sounds fantastic :bammer:

I actually made a live disc version of "Bury Our Friends" to be added to the live vault, but only me and a friend from Chicago has got it since, the old SK site is no longer. :(

and damn it, they better play the Wrigley shows with PJ

Quasi just played a couple shows last week and didnt play any new songs which was a little surprising. Been awhile since they put anything out.

You mean a live disc version of the whole 'No Cities to Love' album? Share that shit here! This thread might just be the closest thing to a S-K board now :)

I love Sleater-Kinney so, so, so much but I can't help but feel a little cold from this reunion so far. Maybe if they showed a little more love to Portland I'd feel different. But they've almost completely ignored their hometown since they came back (one show, almost no press) and Carrie's spent some of her time slagging on the city and boasting of her desire to move to LA (something that's going to irk people here, leading me to believe she's trying to troll Portlanders).

Mostly it's because they've pretended like we don't exist, and it makes me sad.

I'm firmly convinced, based on my interactions with her in the past, and what I've seen since, that Carrie wants desperately to be famous. It doesn't detract from her musical skills, which are phenomenal...But it makes everything else she does really annoying.
She's the most famous person in this city and apparently that isn't good enough for her. I mean, she's already created a TV show that goes out of its way to lampoon aspects of our city which are no longer really true (the tech boom and skyrocketing rents have pushed out a lot of Portland's essential weirdness), and I'm guessing she's received a pretty substantial backlash from the show here in the city.

What I can't figure out is how somebody in a feminist, anti-capitalist punk band wound up doing ads for American Express and other companies.

I wouldn't characterize what I've read from her as slagging on Portland too terribly, and she's all about acting now so it makes sense for her to live in LA full time (she's only been a part-time Portlander for many years already). Also, as you stated Portland really is heading in a strange (IMO bad) direction. I'm a native & I'm not in to it, but others have correctly pointed out the whole "cost of progress" inevitability of the whole situation.

I don't really think they owe Portland any extra-special treatment, and I know for a fact that playing shows here turns in to a big clusterfuck for them. I've heard rumors of them doing private/friends/family shows in the city over the last year or so, which makes sense to me. But believe me, I understand how it's a kinda sad that we haven't gotten more. Rest assured they will be back.

Also, I saw the late show at Mississippi Studios by Quasi the other week, and it was HUGE. Had a great time.

And even though it was a bit too precious in parts, I did enjoy reading her new memoir/book. Especially the stuff about the Olympia scene/early S-K times.

This explains it a little more. I think my problem is that they've grown up and a lot of their fanbase wishes they were still the little feminist punk band they were 20 years ago. I'm somewhere in between but I wish they'd play here more often.
