Re: The Home Improvement Thread
How much would y'all spend to have a tile backsplash installed in your kitchen?
Average size kitchen, maybe 25-30 linear feet of backsplash. 15" tall roughly all the way around.
12"x12" sheets of like a mosaic tile pattern.

Normally I would agree with you but after tiling an entire bathroom myself, I'm over it.

Built a brick wall today around a drainage pipe coming out from underneath our driveway.

Bathroom remodel is done. We hired out the plumbing, wall moving/framing, and subfloor work but did the rest ourselves. I'm still married, so I consider it a success!

Yeah, but we budgeted for it. These things always cost about 30% more and take about 100% more time than you think.doug rr wrote:did it cost about 30% more than you thought?Monkey_Driven wrote:It was touch and go there for a few moments.Bammer wrote:Monkey_Driven wrote:Bathroom remodel is done. Re: The Home Improvement Thread
We hired out the plumbing, drywall, and vanity cabinets/counters. Did all the framing, tile, flooring, fixtures, shelves, electrical, and paint ourselves. It was grueling but very satisfying. Took probably 25-30 Saturdays. Not sure how the budget ended up but we saved at least $15k by not hiring a contractor.Monkey_Driven wrote:Yeah, but we budgeted for it. Good on you!
I think we saved $1,500-2,000 by doing a lot ourselves too (it was a really small bathroom).

i think it's great that you guys all did stuff like this yourselves. but do you not also put a money value on time and build that into the equation?

I have to move 4 heavy-as-shit railroad ties from our backyard to a side yard, but have to go around the house due to the fence. I'm seriously thinking about paying some of the neighborhood teens 20 bucks to move them for me.Chris_H_2 wrote:i think it's great that you guys all did stuff like this yourselves. but do you not also put a money value on time and build that into the equation?
