I've always been puzzled that more people don't complain about the sound at Pearl Jam shows, which is amongst the worst I've ever experienced. The Spectrum show I attended was literally unlistenable...just a huge wash of reverberated nothing...and I was sitting right in the center in front of the soundboard! I can't imagine how anybody could have possibly driven home saying, "That was great!", but you never hear about it.

I would be inclined to agree, if it weren't for the fact that (in most cases) the opening acts sounded great and were obviously much, much louder. It's almost comical when PJ takes the stage, how puny and inaudible they sound in comparison.

I've also seen multiple shows in the same venue (Trocadero, for example) where one band sounded superb (Ween) and another band sounded absolutely horrible (Mr. Bungle). I've also never been disappointed in the sound at a Radiohead concert, no matter where it's been. They have their shit completely together. The sound system and the sound people are a very important factor.

Never hear about it? You've bashed that show relentlessly over the past 6+ years. Sooner or later, you need to let it go and move on.

You misinterpreted what I said, but thanks for the righteous indignation anyway, asshat.

2006 was the first time I really noticed it to the point that it took me off of the moment of being there.

Yeah, every PJ show I have been to has featured a far superior sound and volume for the opening act, starting in 2005 with Sleater Kinney. The biggest difference was My Morning Jacket in 2006, man they sounded good.

Yeah, there is this overwhelming feeling of, "I can't hear anything that is going on at all. Why the fuck am I here, and why is my wallet empty?"

You would think that they would want to be really loud, because that's how music sounds today, but they sound like a whisper in a canyon. 2006 is when it really seemed to get worse (as others have said, MMJ sounded fantastic in comparison), and 2009 was one of my worst concert sound experiences of all time, possibly topped only by the Mr. Bungle show, which was one of the biggest disappointments of my life in terms of a band failing to meet expectations.
