To be fair this review was written a couple days after it was released. I've only listened a few times and theme isn't as readily apparent as some of his other albums outside of the spiritual-ness.LoathedVermin72 wrote:Except, like pretty much all of Kanye's albums, this album is actually very focused and cohesive thematically. People need to realize that "I don't understand what the theme is" is not tantamount to "there is no theme."Monkey_Driven wrote:A favorite gaming personality, Brian Altano, summed up this album best, especially the Zelda analogy.
Man, the 2 to 3 minute mark of Highlights is damn good.

If you stop listening after Wolves it feels like a cohesive album. The rest are essentially bonus tracks as referenced in 30 hours

True, I'm glad he included those tracks.Mecca wrote:If you stop listening after Wolves it feels like a cohesive album. The rest are essentially bonus tracks as referenced in 30 hours

Right. As you said, he calls that out himself in the song. But I think including the bonus tracks is, in its own way, thematically necessary, and mirrors the release of the album, among other things.Mecca wrote:If you stop listening after Wolves it feels like a cohesive album. I understand Kanye a lot better after listening to the bonus songs. It seems like he has a weird thing about being seen as a rap artist. Or maybe he thought they just didn't fit. Just don't understand how you don't run to put out a song as good as No More Parties in L.A.

I think the only reason it was considered leaving it off was that it was released on Soundcloud alreadyOrpheus wrote:I understand Kanye a lot better after listening to the bonus songs. I haven't heard the whole thing yet but what I've heard is great, he's passed into bonafide genius territory at this point.Kevin Davis wrote:Hey Orph, what did you think of the new Kendrick thing?Orpheus wrote:That makes sense.

So he changed the version of "Famous" on Tidal. I hate, hate, hate the lyric change. He ruined my favorite lyric in the song.

Yeah I don't get it. Was it because someone deemed it offensive or something? No reason for that.LoathedVermin72 wrote:So he changed the version of "Famous" on Tidal. I hate, hate, hate the lyric change. He ruined my favorite lyric in the song.

But now the previous "floatin'" line doesn't make any sense!

It went from this...
I be Puerto Rican day parade floatin'
That Benz Marina Del Rey coastin'
She be Puerto Rican day parade wavin'
Last month I helped her with the car payment
To this...

That Benz Marina Del Rey coastin'
She in school to be a real estate agent

Well then, this album went from a solid 8.5 to a 3.
