I don't suppose you've heard this version? It leaked last year along with a bunch of other stuff and Billy went apoplectic about the leaks. So, so, so good....Birds in Hell wrote:

I like the zeitgeist era. I consider it maybe, the last good era of Billy...Even if he always has good stuff around, specially live.
But yeah, he fucked up big time, with his pretension....that album could have been so good.

I feel bad about how D'arcy ended up being.
Machina is the last album I consider a Smashing Pumpkins album. I was listening to that album the other day just to realize once again how I've kind of grown out of that type of music. It fit perfectly to my mindset when I was 15-25 years old, and mr. Corgan really is a master both melodically and lyrically in capturing what life feels like when you're that age, but now that I'm in my 30's it has a nostalgic value to me, and that's about it. I mean I still like songs like "Stand Inside Your Love" but now when I'm listening to it, it just brings back the images and feelings I had about life ten years ago, and now I kind of understand the falsehood of those images, how art can imitate life, but how real life is never going to be like that art, how it's sort of polished version of life, a well crafted 3 minute pop song, a fantasy which never even existed elsewhere than in the artists mind. Or at least that's how I feel about it now.

C'Mon mate if you driving along in the bush and a drop bear comes at you you turn left to avoid it but you look to the right to make sure that bugga isn't chasing you. Then you check your bum for warts and throw another shrimp on the barbie. In case you are wondering how that applies to aeroplanes.

Re: generic smashing pumpkins thread
I totally understand this feeling, since the Pumpkins were a huge part of my life from ages 19 - 27. I mean, while I was living in France I skipped work to go see the reformed band in Paris because I didn't see the original band, and I worried that era might be a one-off. It was worth it, but while I was there I had the feeling this might be it for the band. In the sense of their cultural relevance, it was - they'll never play a show in a venue that large ever again. When it comes to nostalgia, hearing Siamese Dream takes me back to college, listening to it on repeat and learning to play all the songs on guitar, and playing it at parties.contamination wrote:I feel bad about how D'arcy ended up being.

But sometimes I want to feel that way, and sometimes I fall into my typical 3-5 week binge where all I listen to is Smashing Pumpkins (I do this for every band I love), and it is glorious.

Doesn't surprise me at all. I was told by someone who knew her that she is super, super self-conscious and would stare at herself in the mirror for hours on end. Her endless plastic surgery escapades are in "Michael Jackson" territory. She's definitely not "all there". I wouldn't be surprised if she uses meth just to keep herself skinny.VinylGuy wrote:True words.

An Atlanta date was recently added to their spring tour.
I'm trying to decide if I want to go. On one hand I liked them 20 years ago but kind of dropped them after Melon Collie. I saw them twice during their heyday but no other big name act left me feeling as meh/disappointed after a show.

Re: Crucify the Insincere: A Smashing Pumpkins Thread
that's an 'in plainsong: acoustic electro' show, so know this: if you just want to hear the hits from their heyday, don't go. but if you're ok with hearing unfamiliar material in a smaller setting with a mix of solo acoustic and stripped down band stuff, then go. this years shows apparently will feature a siamese dream 'suite' (last year it was adore), along with other catalog stuff including zwan and other solo material, and a handful of hits thrown in. plus, jimmy chamberlain is along for the tour this time.Biff Pocoroba wrote:An Atlanta date was recently added to their spring tour.

I might just retire from concerts permanently if they bust out "Geek U.S.A." or "Silverfuck", because I'm not sure anything is going to top that for me at this point.AndySlash wrote:that's an 'in plainsong: acoustic electro' show, so know this: if you just want to hear the hits from their heyday, don't go. but if you're ok with hearing unfamiliar material in a smaller setting with a mix of solo acoustic and stripped down band stuff, then go. this years shows apparently will feature a siamese dream 'suite' (last year it was adore), along with other catalog stuff including zwan and other solo material, and a handful of hits thrown in. plus, jimmy chamberlain is along for the tour this time.Biff Pocoroba wrote:An Atlanta date was recently added to their spring tour.

I went to opening night in Portland. It was outstanding. The biggest surprises and highlights were "Stumbleine", "Jesus I / Mary Star of the Sea", "Whir", "Eye", and "Identify" (which Billy wrote, but I never figured we'd ever hear his version). Fantastic show. I really liked the new songs too. I highly recommend this tour.AndySlash wrote:In Plainsong 2016 tour started a couple nights ago.
