This was a "perfect storm."

1. You have the Pats coaching staff, which has been enamored with Tebow.

2. You then have Bob Kraft, the owner, who sees $$ signs with this.

3. Publicity - don't forget there's a big rivalry between the Red Sox and Pats for media attention in this town.

4. Kraft's mentor is Jerry Jones....he's taking a page from his book on this one.

5. The deal is cheap and the Pats can back out.

You really think anything besides #1 and, more importantly, 5 are at play here?

@HubbuchNYP: Bob Kraft says Tim Tebow's "spirituality" attracted the Patriots to sign him.

@HubbuchNYP Bob Kraft says Tebow's throwing motion "looks pretty good to me." Adds "it's really exciting to have him here."

I'll take #5 over #1. If they were "enamored" with Tebow, it never would've taken this long to sign him.

I work in communications in this town. Trust me, there's a giant battle between the Sox and Pats for media attention. For decades, the Sox owned this town even when the Celts were winning 16 championships.

When the Pats won in 2001, they slowly, but surely began stealing "free" publicity from the Sox.

It's very similar to what happens in New York - The Jets always looking to steal the back page from the Giants.

It's huge.

But yeah, to answer your question, I think all five came into play here. Obviously, No. 1 and 5 being the most important.

perhaps enamored is too strong of a word - I'd say McDaniels and Belichick were very, very, very, very interested.

I think it's time to put the pipe away, Coach. And, if you still think the Pats feel the need to "out-headline" the sox, you might as well pick the pipe back up because it doesn't fucking matter anymore.

I very much believe that the Pats and Sox still compete for media coverage. To believe otherwise is naive. We'll just have to agree to disagree.

I thought Tebow should have always gone to the Patriots in the first place.

With a 4th round pick.

To play H-back.

But still.

Really Dennard? You should be cut just because of how incomprehensible it is for you to get a DUI. Jackass.

Drunk driving. Could've had another Patriot kill someone.

We need a few more things to go badly....odds are they will, and we'll be in tiger stripes (or prison ones!) by September. Go New England!
