Shaking Through is a good song, and hints at the later style that would produce some of my favorite R.E.M. songs.

Photograph, though pretty obscure, is one of my favorite R.E.M. songs. Stipe and Natalie Merchant sound beautiful together, and this is recorded at the height of Stipe's vocal career. I love the lyrics and the story and the way this song poses so much wistful hope into such a simple song.

If you don't know this one it's worth a listen, and then it's worth tracking down a better quality version.

Shaking Through is the best song on Murmur.

Photograph easily - I can't say enough how much I love this song!

Another really tough matchup. I love "Shaking Through", especially the ending, but "Photograph" is one of my favorite R.E.M. tunes. (It actually got some airplay in Atlanta when Born to Choose came out.)

I believe Natalie wrote the lyrics. It was included on the Deluxe Edition of her Greatest Hits (which I think is on Amazon but not iTunes), and is probably the best-mastered copy.

Fuck, I just listened to Photograph for the first time, and I absolutely adored it. Shaking Through is one of their best early songs, it's amazing too.
I'm leaning towards Photograph right now, but I don't know how it will age. I wish both songs could advance. (I'm actually surprised that Shaking Through didn't get a bye)

Thanks!! I've usually been quasi-anon as URH, but I felt like it was worth a callback to all of the R.E.M. talk we used to have during the Original Song Contest(s). (I think the R.E.M. influences are all over my stuff.)
