I'd vote against every other song in this bracket against either of these.

It's a Free World Baby is garbage. One of the very few bad REM songs.

Pretty Persuasion has always felt a little generic to me. Like it's the template song for what people associate with IRS era REM. It's not that it's a bad song by any stretch of the imagination, but almost everything this song there are numerous other songs that just do it much better.

The fact that Pretty Persuation isnt even amongst the best from Reckoning shows how great the album is.
Easy vote.

Listening to "It's a Free World Baby" for the first time...wtf is that verse music. The chorus is...okay.

The speedier play of the intro riff that comes late in "Pretty Persuasion" has always sold me on that song. Love it.

99X in Atlanta actually played "Free World Baby" a ton during the summer of '93 when it was on the Coneheads soundtrack. It is a truly terrible song, but it now reminds of that summer. (I was totally confused when it showed up on the Friends soundtrack in '95. That it was an Out of Time song that got buried until after Automatic should say everything.)
