I love Ignoreland, and it somehow always manages to feel relevant around election time. It's one of my favorite songs to sing along to, and the 'I know this is vitriol no solution spleen venting but I feel better having screamed, don't you' lyric is great.

Crush With Eyeliner has always kinda bored me a bit, to tell the truth. It gets a bit tedious. It's kind of like a cross between Bang and Blame and I Took Your Name, and I'd rather listen to either of those songs.

I honestly love Crush With Eyeliner, but it's not better than Ignoreland.

I love "Crush With Eyeliner" -- it's one of those songs that just so perfectly captures a time and place for me that it's difficult to vote against it. "Ignoreland" has always been a lesser "Automatic" track for me, though I concede that that isn't saying much.

Both good songs. But, I'll take the sexier Crush With Eyeliner in this match. One of my personal favorites from Monster.

i'm pretty sure it's the only tour they ever played it in. i don't think it had been played live before that, making it even more awesome that they did it at those shows.
ah, copperplate, a font for the truly modern man.

I hardly know REM, but I'm bored. Most of these songs I'll probably be hearing for the first time.

"Crush with Eyeliner" wins this easily. I listened to "Ignoreland" first, not much there I was really digging. I knew my vote was for "Crush with Eyeliner" after maybe 10 secs into the song.

It's the best way to learn 'em. I did that a few years ago with the REM draft tournament. I knew there hits, and had some studio albums like Murmur, Life's Rich Pageant, Document, and Monster, but that was it. After the second round, I was like, I need to listen to their entire catalog like now to keep up with this thing.

I was in the same boat until 5 or 6 years ago and then went through the whole catalog in order, album by album.

This is one thing I'll miss about buying physical albums: I discovered REM by buying each album, in random order, from the used bin. I would check every couple of weeks and buy any REM albums I could find.

Now that I think about it, I never did find Reckoning... I eventually just downloaded it.
