Well, before I get around to this (it may be awhile, depending on how busy I get), I want to talk about my all-time favorite Soundgarden bootleg. It's from the first show of the European Down of the Upside tour, and find the band clearly wanting to try different things. Check out this beautiful, beautiful setlist:

1. Spoonman (missing from recording)
2. Searching With My Good Eye Closed (missing from recording)
3. Let Me Drown
4. Pretty Noose
5. Burden In My Hand
6. Head Down
7. My Wave
8. Ty Cobb
9. Never Named
10. Helter Skelter
11. Boot Camp/jam ending
12. Fell on Black Days
13. Rusty Cage
14. Black Hole Sun
15. Waiting for the Sun
16. Rhinosaur
17. Mailman
18. Drawing Flies
19. Blow Up the Outside World

encore:
20. Drop Out Boogie [Captain Beefheart cover]
21. Full On Kevin's Mom [probably a request; first performance since 1990 and last performance ever]

There's so much going on here, but this strikes me as one of those crew setlist kind of shows. Within a few days they would settle into a standard setlist that stayed mostly static for the rest of the DOTU tour; as such this show features rare performances (for this tour) of "Head Down", "Never Named", "Rhinosaur", "Mailman", "Waiting For The Sun", "Drop Out Boogie" and of course, "Full on Kevin's Mom". Also of note is that "Boot Camp" features a jam ending that goes on for 2 minutes, and is mesmerizing. This is the only time that I know of that the song was performed like this. Other than missing the first two songs, the recording is very good for an audience recording. I either traded for or bought the tape (I don't remember anymore), then had it transferred. Listening to the tape the first time was an amazing experience, given that I expected a standard show and got something completely different. I also eventually tracked down a ticket stub of this show and bought it on Ebay for like $3. Here it is:

And with all that said, I'm sharing the recording with you. Click here for a link.

Enjoy!

Great show! Its a shame there are so few soundboards from back then but if you crank this it sounds pretty clear for an audience! Thanks so much Matt!

matt reeder wrote:So I'm kind of thinking about expanding my Z-Sides set to have a disc for every album. The first disc would stay more or less the same (given that there are not many recordings from that time period, and the disc is almost perfect); the reunion-era disc would also stay pretty much the same because I really can't top it. The rest would be one disc for every album cycle, from Louder Than Love through Down on the Upside. I don't feel like all of the albums are fully, truly represented in the set.

So for example, here's a tracklist I quickly threw together for the DOTU era:

1. Waiting For the Sun [Irvine, 8/03/1996]
2. Pretty Noose [Irvine, 8/03/1996]
3. Head Down [Glasgow, 9/16/1996]
4. Ty Cobb [Glasgow, 9/16/1996]
5. Never Named Helter Skelter [Glasgow, 9/16/1996]
6. Boot Camp [Glasgow, 9/16/1996]
7. Rhinosaur [Glasgow, 9/16/1996]
8. Switch Opens [Rotterdam, 10/11/1996]
9. Never the Machine Forever [Denver, 11/07/1996]
10. No Attention [Chicago, 11/09/1996]
11. Blow Up the Outside World [Oakland, 12/05/1996]
12. Burden in My Hand [MTV Europe fall 1996]
13. Spoonman [MTV Europe fall 1996]
14. Mailman [MTV Europe fall 1996]
15. Black Hole Sun [MTV Europe fall 1996]
16. Slaves and Bulldozers [Perth, 2/02/1997]
17. Dark Globe [Perth, 2/02/1997]

The final tracklist would of course change greatly but I assume this is something that would interest people?
very much so

Thanks again Matt for Soundgarden Z-Sides. Listening to it the whole day. I envy you guys for seeing Soundgarden live 'cause I don't think I will ever see them playing live. So I am very happy with everything Matt Reeder shared.

You know, I never picked up the Superunknown Super Deluxe. They made it limited release and at the time I didn't want to fork out $25/disc or whatever it was. I don't suppose somebody could...enlighten me as to where to find it, if you get my drift.

I promise more shows will be uploaded whether somebody helps me or not, but more will be uploaded especially if somebody helps me.

Been listening to a lot of SG lately.
For some really strange reason they never come up when I'm rattling off my favorite bands.
Oh man if they'd not broken up for 15 years or whatever it was...
