It's too bad it's up against These Days, since I think Pale Blue Eyes is a lovely little cover. Here's a great early live version of it.

Pale Blue Eyes is a very good cover of a fantastic song, but I have to vote for These Days here.

But These Days is a timeless blast of youthful optimism that I've never tired of, and it gets my vote easily. That 1-3 run on Life's Rich Pageant is tough to beat.

The 4th and 5th songs from Pageant are my favorite tracks from that album (I'm probably alone on Hyena tho). It's very consistent anyways.

I'd never heard their version of "Pale Blue Eyes". I really don't like it.

I'd go find the studio version of their cover to convince you otherwise, but it's pretty much exactly what you just heard

The original is one of my favorite songs of all time, so maybe I'm just too used to it. This version is somewhat jarring to me and eliminates a lot of what I love of the original.

These Days. R.E.M.'s versions of political anthems that pop up on Pageant and Document are all pretty great
